walking down the sidewalk today on my way to lunch, and I said "on your left" as I passed someone.

Ha! I can picture myself doing that. Kind of reminds me of when my kids were younger and in school and they would raise their hands at the dinner table before speaking as if they were still in class.

when I very occasionally walk somewhere I keep finding myself (unintentionally) in the bike path... pure force of habit... sorry! :)

It's ok, I found it on the other side of the road. I was wondering who it belonged to. It's a little dusty and beaten up, but still usable. :D

I have a truck with a CB/PA in it & I've been tempted to announce 'on your left' over the PA when passing cyclists from time to time. I've never done it since it would probably be more startling than appreciated as humor....

You had a mind to begin with? I am jealous.

Sometimes I check the top left of my field o' vision to see what's behind me in my non-existant mirror.

You haven't lost your mind; you've just entered a higher state of consciousness.

I did that too when I used a rear view mirror

I sometimes point out holes when I'm riding alone. Just a habit.

Did he move to his left?

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who occasionally attempts to check a non-existent helmet mirror to see what's behind me when I'm not even on the bike.

my main bike is clipless and my grocery runner-townbike has platforms. i constantly sweep my heel to the right to "unclip" my platforms.

Did he move to his left?

Priceless...

If he were a mindless touron, er, tourist here in DC, he might, if you're lucky. Chances are he won't even hear you, neither your bell which you've been ringing for the last 10 f-ing seconds nor the verbal warning. It can be beautiful riding across the National Mall. It can also be a big pain in the arse!

I drove to work yesterday. Blew right by the right turn I'm supposed to take in the car, to take the route I use when I'm on the bike. A route that I can't travel in the car. Not the first time I've done that, either.

Yep, I've done that too, or I'll sometimes take my bike route back streets (instead of more major roads) by habit.

When I got home and the phone rang, I answered it like I do at the bike shop, "Good Afternoon, Bike Barn". I also lean into turns...

In the immortal words of Muddy Waters, "You can't spend what you ain't got, and you can't lose what you never had.". As applies to myself anyway. I too am guilty of the phantom mirror check.

Somehow I just have this image of BD with his hands out in front like he's on the hoods and he's zipping through the walkers on the sidewalk when he did this :P

I had to drive for the first time in a month and tried to take the same route as I usually do.......including the MUP. I caught my self, but I did slow and begin to turn; that would have been a sight a full sized truck cruising threw the park.

The other day in the car, I scooted up and lowered my head to get more aero.

Last year a guy pulled up behind me in a diesel Ram and started yelling something over a PA he had. He turned around so he could pass me 2 more times, still yelling. I couldn't understand a single word he said, but I doubt it was nice.

Saying "on your left" on your PA would be hilarious, but chances are they won't understand.

Sometimes while driving my car on my bike route, I suddenly realize I am only going 18-20mph because that is the speed I am accustomed to.
