Hi all. After deciding that it was time to upgrade from my 1990 DB Master TG, I looked at several road frames, including the Gunnar Roadie, Soma Smoothie, a couple of LeMond frames/complete bikes, TST Ti, Habanero Ti, and Soma Smoothie. FWIW, Soma was out from the get-go because they failed to return ANY e-mail inquiries I sent them. Two LBSs in the Northern Virginia area struck out because they didn't return e-mails and phone calls (had been interested in LeMond deals they were pushing on their websites on '02 close outs). In the end, Habanero got my $$, for a road frame set that will include a Cane Creek S2 headset and a Profile BRC fork. I'll build the bike using a 9 spd Dura Ace/Open Pro CD wheelset ordered from Colorado Cyclist, Dura Ace STI levers and cassette, and the balance Ultegra components that will be swapped out from my old Diamondback.
I'll let you all know how the project turns out, but I have been amazed so far by Habanero's great customer service. E-mail was returned by them within hours of being sent, phone calls were prompt and courteous, their prices look very competitive for what you get, and here's hoping this will be one helluva road bike for me. I'm also not sure what to think about Soma and others, who don't seem interested in answering inquiries. Do they think that inspires confidence in potential buyers?
Have a great weekend everyone. Soon the Master will become a (1) beater bike for rain and cold, or (2) will be sold on ebay for a few clams.
