Commuting - Video of my hot weather commute yesterday

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

At least you found some greenery in the middle. All of that concrete looked hot tho.

Way to tough it out!

No way would I ride in 113 degree weather. That is why God invented city buses. :)

No way...I'd still ride it. Can't say I've ridden that hot before, but high 90's for sure. I've ridden in 24 degrees; I know some have ridden in colder. I wonder which is worse...a really really warm water bottle or one in which ice is forming. Hmmm?

I must be weird but I really enjoy the heat. it reminds me of home since I am from Pakistan originally.

After commuting all winter in Illinois, this kind of weather feels like a gift from God! But I do wait until UV index is less than two, so I do not get any skin damage or sunburn. I made the video at approximately 6 PM.

Thats only a cool spring day in Australia. Seriously 34degrees is a mildly warm day in summer however our humidity in my part of Australia is usually low. We quite regularly have spells of over 40 degrees for five or six days at a time with one day of 47 degrees celcius shade temp this year. BUT I am in awe of you guys who ride in the snow and ice and low temperatures. If it get down to 3 or 4 degrees celcius here I think my fingers are going to fall off.

Very cool video! What camera did you use? Nice resolution! :thumb:

You see a lot in your commute...cemetery, rabbits, couple + their boat on their lawn! LOL! Is there anything you don't see?
:D

See this thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=534773) for details on my helmet cam.

After watching your helmet cam vid all I have to say is, joey has a very stable head. Well, what's in his head may not be, but, you know what I mean. OP's head is like one of those bobblehead dolls. Mount it on your handlebars, please!!!

One other thing. Just because a piece of plastic baking in the sun says 113, doesn't mean the air is 113 degrees. With the kind of humidity you get, I doubt it can ever get above 100 or so. 94 is still plenty damn hot though.

liked the cemetary ;).

You guys should come ride in St. Louis, it averages 95->100 all summer long with high humidity(landlocked) :( . Most of my friends are bailing on me for our daily 30 mile ride and the track around the lake near my house is now mostly empty of the usual throng of bikers/runners that are usually there.

Current weather @10am.

But isn't it a lot safer?

Safer for who?
Where I live the law say that bikes are not to ridden on the sidewalk.

No

The Advocacy ad Safety forum has a whole thread on the topic

That sound like an unusual law. In my area I wouldn't dream of riding on the road. There's not enough room.

Where do you live? Just because it isn't illegal does not mean you should ride on the sidewalk because you become a hazard to the people on the sidewalk and you put yourself at danger when approaching intersections because motorists aren't expecting bikes to be there.

Being on the road is safer because you will be where motorists will see you. If there isn't enough room for you and a car to safely share a lane then you take the lane.
