Hi Lugi, Man I've seen them in my LBS, and talked to Elan about them, Monday I'm going to pick them up too...My LBS owner is friends with the guy who builds the wood fenders, If it's the same person, he lives in Oregon and does great work with wood. Can't wait to see your trucker.

They're made in Boring, Oregon by the owner of River City Bicycles. I live in Portland metro. Let me know what wood type they are. I got Purple Heart/Walnut to go with my std Sage Green LHT paint.

Ok, I will tomorrow. I just finished doing some simple detail painting on my front fork. I'll post some build update pix tomorrow when I re-install the fork. Wheels to be built by next weekend. Woo Hoo.
Congrats on scoring yer frame!

Thx. I'm having fun with this build. I painted the box crown on the fork black and filled in the triangle empression white. I used enamel paint for models with a little paint brush. When you look @ it close it looks less than pro, but from afar it looks cool.
It turns out that I'm going to have the fenders custom made for me. The 700c fenders were actually too narrow for the tire sizes I run...700x37-42. I returned the set my wife got me and now I'm going to have to wait a couple of months to get the custom wider ones. They'll be as close to complimentary to my saddle as possible. It's ok, it's summer anyway.

Looks great so far, HL. Hope to see photos of the completed bike.
I know all about waiting for parts. I am all ready to build up a bike....except the frame I want is on backorder until August.
hey,
how do you find the weight of your new surly frame? my gf just saw a built up long haul trucker at a bike shop, picked it up to weigh it subjectively...
she said that it weighed more than my old appolo frame that i use to bomb around town and generally beat on.
i was suprised because the old frame is not exactally a feather.
what do you think?

Here's a link to the surly website on the LHT: http://www.surlybikes.com/longhaul.html
Looks like a 58cm frame with an uncut fork is 7.4 pounds.
I have a Trek 520 that feels fairly heavy, and you can feel it when trying to accelerate (sp?), but it feels stable and comfortable when loaded. I think it's the logical design of the touring bike to be truck-like in build and handling.
