Great Lakes - NE Ohio Twin Sizzler, Who's in?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Just wanted a count of who might race the Twin Sizzler in Medina on July 4th. I will be in the 50-54 start.
Let's see if the bike will stay together for a change!
So who else????

I actually work for the city of Medina part-time and I have to work there at 3 on the day of the Twin Sizzler. I was considering doing the citizen race and sticking around til time to work.
Not 100% sure yet, I have to motivate myself to commit to getting up that early on a day I have to work til 11pm.

I was planning to race the 55-59 race. However my coach has expressed "tough love" and I'll be racing the 35+ Expert race.
Bill that sucks! Iwas looking to grab your wheel as you went by!! Now I have to win it the old fashioned way!! LOL

I am planning on photographing the races, unless I get a wedding gig that day. If you let me know what you are riding/wearing I'll look for you.

With all the miles you've been putting in I don't believe I would have seen you until the finish line. Good luck now , if I don't see you until after the race.

I'm on the Stark Velo Team. We wear white, yellow and black kits. I ride a red Specialized Roubaix. Added later: I'm also pretty old.

No race for me...downside of my new short commute and Cheri always wanting to ride with me...no hard rides, few fast group rides and intervals...so I'm slow as molasses - where I was able to hold 21-24mph solo last year, I'm doing 18-20mph this year. Kinda sucks too, because I am so much better shape physically after quitting smoking last year...and it shows in my climbing. Kennard hill is sooooo much easier than it was last year!

Come on Scott! Remember there are pancakes at the church after the race!!
Half-bent not sure what the kit of the day will be, where might you be found if you do come?
Chip so what if you ain;t as fast as last year, you're still better than most! come on out and gring cheri.

I'll be there, 45-50 group. Also bringing my surprisingly fast 15 year old. His first race. Should be fun..
Does someone have a link to the race flyer they can post?

I usually shoot the start from about 50ft south on S. Court, then I wal down to the finish area. I'll probably be wearing a red golf shirt and khaki shorts. I might wander through the start area before the races actually start, and I'll have a camera around my neck. Feel free to shout for me if you see me (before racing)
Registration Info. www.YWCA.org/medinacounty (http://www.YWCA.org/medinacounty) Today (26th) is last day to register in advance. There is day of race registration though.
Half bent I'll keep and eye out for ya.

Dangit. I can't make it. My scout troop is going to be in camp that week and I probably won't be awake by 6:00am on Saturday, let alone have enough time to drive to 2 hours back for that race. Oh well. Be sure to get pics for me.
Well looks like just a few of us are going to this but thought i'd move it back up to see who else might join the fun. Come on it's a true citizen race and all us wanna be's can see what we're made of!!

I'll be there in the 50-54 group also. I picked up my race packet yesterday at Second Sole in Medina. I'm #120. If you're pre-registered, you can still pick them up today. I've got less than a thousand miles in so I don't know how fast I'll be but it's always fun. See you all there.
P.S.- Don't forget about the Ice Cream Ride on July 18th. I'll be on SAG duty that day.

bikejunkie, are you in the MCBC? I haven't rode with them yet this year because I have been doing the Westlake Races. The Tuesday night rides last year were good rides.

No, I'm with Century Cycles. I haven't been able to get out on the Tuesday rides yet either. The last time I rode with MCBC was the Ride of Silence in May.

I'm still tossing around the idea of going. It's kind early, and I'm NOT a racer, but I have only so many chances to take my new steed on a good group ride and this is one of them.
Even if this group is a bit more... competitive.
I'm also a bit worried about working 3-11 in Medina on a holiday, and will need my A game for that tour.
So at this point, if I can get my butt out of bed, full steam ahead, damn the torpedoes!
I'm in.
Bright Green Waterford, Team TOMS kit. Racing 20-something citizen. Say hi!
Slept in and missed it. Crap!

Leinad missed winning by about a bike length in the 50-54 race. I raced the expert 35+ race and finished 19th overall. We passed the pack of the Expert 19-34 race about 3.5 miles from the finish and picked some of those riders in our group. I understand that the Expert 19-34 race had a 3 or 4 man break, nocondorfx may have been in the break since I didn't see him when we passed their field. Considering the racers finishing from the first group, I may have placed somewhere from 9th to 13th out of the 45 riders in my race. We averaged 25.1 mph for the race. I made Kennard Rd Hill my "biatch" today.

I also got to meet Half Bent at the finish. Hope you got some nice pictures. I know you got leinad just after the finish.
Man, I missed half bent, were was he standing? As Allegheny said I missed it by just a bit, but loved it all the same! Real tactical group today, the attack came at Kennark hill and by the top of the hill we went from 30 riders to 6 in less than a mile. I sure am glad I'm a climber, if you weren't you were toast!
Didn't see scott either, dang! So Scott how'd it go for you?
Bill are you happy with your result? Us old guys still have a little fight in us!!!

I am very happy with my finish. Most of the riders in our race were team riders and there were attacks and team tactics the whole race. My only mistake was when we passed the Expert 19-34 race going up the long hill on Smith Rd with about 3 miles to go. Our groups got mixed up some and when we passed the stop light, where Smith Rd went concrete, it became 30+ mph single file racing and I was too far back to get up to the front for the sprint. I almost caught the front group of the split pack with about 1/2 mile to go, as we went under the RR overpass. When we got to the final 350 meters I was about 20 yds behind the lead group. No one passed me and I was able to pick off two guys before the finish. I think at 56 I was the oldest rider in the race, heck some of the guys were 21 years younger than me.
Bill, I always love the looks I get after a hard ride with a group that I'm new to and take off my helmet and all the young guns see this skinny old guy, LOL

I was standing on the north side of the road about 30 ft past the finish. I shot pretty much everyone who finished, until about 10am. Here are a couple:

nice pics half bent. I guess it shows I got beat by a lot more than the half bike length I thought! However I guess I did better against the guys behind than I thought too!
BTW if you wonder what I'm doing; I'm slamming my hand aginst the bars while shouting (quite clearly) DAMN!!!!!! So close, yet so far!

That would be me at the finish. I'm still trying to find the final results of the race. The last two miles were basically single line racing in our group with the addition of many of the Expert 19-34's added in when we passed them. From the image it doesn't look as if very much sprinting was taking place.

Congradulations on first place!:thumb: I know your have worked hard this year, you must feel really proud and satisified.
I see that I got 10th in the Expert 35+ race. I'll take that, since last year I got dropped and ended up 7th in the 55-59 men's race.
