I've noticed as my rides get longer the soft tissues get a bit warm and tender. My lbs is out of Cham cream until next week. Is there anything I can pick up from a chain pharmacy in the mean time?

Bag Balm. It comes in a small green can at the pharmacy. Don't use too much, because it doesn't come off.

Yeah, you can also get it at Farm and Fleet. It's used to prevent udder irritation from milking machines on Dairy Cattle, among other things, as is Udder Butter.

+100 on the Udder Butter have been using since I started riding long distances and have not had any issues. It's good stuff. Not as expensive as those ones you find in the LBS. You can get at at Walmart.

Many people also use Queen Helene’s Cocoa Butter for there chamois creme

Bordeaux's Butt Paste, it is in the baby diaper rash/care area.

On 10 Wheels sage advice, I tried Creamy Vasoline. Only 30% petrol jelly, washes off hands with only water and a towel wipe, washes fine out of shorts. Anything with fats is good such as cocoa butter, flax-seed oil. palm oil. Vits A, D, E, Aloe Vera can't hurt.

Don't forget to reapply ~ q 2 hours for long rides as chamois pad absorbs it.

Thank you guys. I picked up a tube of Udderly sMOOth at rite aid. It helps a whole lot even on my short rides.

Only time I ever had to use the stuff is when I had saddles that were either stock on the bike or I had bought trying to find the perfect saddle, for the last three years I have never had to use anything. Brooks Flyer on one bike and Sella An-Atomica Titanico on the other bike, no need for any cream or padded shorts.

I've heard a few people say that but I just can't imagine doing 300k without chamois creme, even on my super-comfortable B-17 Imperial.

I can't imagine stopping to lube up every 2 hours. people are riding by and you got your hand down your pants rubbing the naughty parts? I'll pick up some Udder Butter as a BSTS when I try rides longer than a metric.

Hand down my bibs? Uhhh, no. After a few hours of riding, that's a level of gross and sweaty I'm not putting my hand into.
Mini squeeze bottle of chamois creme, and just bring it into the bathroom at a break stop.
Or, if you're feeling crass and the line for the port-o's is too long, you can use my tactic: Announce loudly to your riding partner, "Yeah, just lemme put some funk on it and I'm ready to roll." Then pull the front of your bibs out (out; not down,) and splortch some chamois creme in there. Release the front of your bibs, "rearrange the furniture" if you catch my drift, and get back on your bike.

Did the GITAP (http://www.bikelib.org/gitap/index.htm) ride last year about 430 miles for the week, then did the Northwoods ride in Wisconsin. The GITAP I did do on the Imperial had a lot of comments on it, I have since traded the Imperial off so someone else could try it. My Brooks Flyer is great and I just put a new Sella An-Atomica on my road bike and did about fifty miles the last two days with no discomfort at all. I'm unsure which bike I will use next month for my next tour, we're doing a 400 mile ride in five days but either one I go with will be conformable and no cream will be used.

I turn onto dirt roads and do it behind bushes. Or park restroom if in town. It may be that the heat is what's requiring more frequent apps. Been ridin in 90-95 degrees. Reapps instantly zap low-grade irritation.

It is Boudreaux’s Butt Paste, but yeah the stuff works pretty well. I saw how well it worked for diaper rash, and came to the conclusion that it was essentially the same problem.
