Last week we had to attend training sessions. They were held 11 rectilinear blocks away, the crows flight distance was more like 8 blocks. OK the car people in the office saw me walking out without my bike and offered to drive me. They think 11 blocks is too far to walk. No problem, it was a nice day, I felt like walking. After the training session we all walk out at the same time. I walk back to the office. The car people arrive in the office between 5 and 10 minutes after I get there. I wasn't looking at the clock carefully. I didn't make a big deal about it, I assumed they stopped to get gas or something, but when I asked they said no they came right back. They said it took awhile to get to the parking garage then they had to walk a block from the office parking lot. I'm not a power walker, I assumed they'd be sitting at their desks as I sauntered in. I love not having a car.

That's awesome. I tried driving to my work ONCE and vowed never to do it again. It's over on 15th and L. Driving took just a hair longer than biking, but parking was ridiculous.

I visited a disabled friend today at his motel. I was able to lock my bike much closer to the building than even the disabled parking spaces.

Yesterday I went to a local bike shop, I like that particular one because I can just roll right into the shop through the front door and put down the kickstand. Wouldn't it be great if grocery stores were like that too!

another example of exactly how much of a misgiving the "Auto-mobile" is.

Funny, maybe 15 and L is some local driving hell. It didn't seem bad from the sidewalk. 15 and L is where the training was - the Post building. Years ago that used to be hooker ville. There was a bar called "Peggy's" near the Post Pub. Then they changed the traffic patterns to discourage the Johns. Maybe the screwy traffic patterns are still left over from the vice crackdown? Car culture - sickness breeding sickness.

Today, I left work 3 minutes before the bus leaves. I unfolded my Brompton, cycled 2 miles to a supermarket, bought bread, milk, and apples, then waited at the bus stop outside the supermarket, for about 3 minutes... and caught the same bus!

My favorite record, was on bike to work day. Of course it was like any other day to be since I live in a city that only says they support bike to work stuff. Anyway, the local road (Highway) that I travel on to get to where I am going, was down to one very slow lane because of construction. I passed tons of cars while laughing like the kid on the "Simpsons". It was such a great feeling to see none of the cars moving :)
