Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - Can you help ID this Trek?

I talked to the owner and he claims he can't find a model number on the bike. 1985, supposedly $450 retail. I would really like to get into a quality, older bike, but I don't know enough about them right now. I looked in the Trek catalog for 1985, but don't see the bike. Any ideas? I hope it is a nice bike, because it is in my price range.

I suggest you check the catalogues at the vintage-trek.com website. I'd do it tonight because I don't expect a steel Trek for $125 to last long on CL. My guess is you're already too late. Any steel Trek under $175 is gone in a few hours around here.

+1 Doesn't matter what model or year Trek it is, it should be gone at that price. Assuming you buy it, just look up the serial number on the vintage Trek site, and it will tell you what model it is.

Any decent clean steel Trek road bike will sell for around $200 here, and better models will sell for more.

According to the site, $450 in '85 would make it probably a 5xx series.

But one thing I've learned buying old bikes is that no one ever remembers the correct price they paid :rolleyes:, and aren't much better on the date.
