Hello! I started commuting during the fuel crisis of the 70's. Tried to race but wasn't very good. Enjoyed the sport so I became an race official. I can't commute anymore as I work 2nd shift. The roads do not lend themselves to riding around midnight.

I recommend checking out the commuting and Electronics forums. There may be a way to light up a midnight commute!

What part of PA?

Welcome!

You aren't going to believe how bright bike lights can be now.

A guy was killed on a bike last week at 9:15 pm on one of the roads I would have to take. There really is no shoulder on the twisty roads that some drivers think is a race track. When I was younger I would probably have done it. Midnight now most likely not but thanks for the suggestion.

Are there any alternate routes? You are wise to avoid twisty+dark+high differential speed in planning a commute. The general attitude is that more light=safer, but I'm of the mind that more light doesn't help you from an inattentive driver.

BTW, I grew up near Northampton-Bath.

Welcome! I am originally from Allentown. My son and I rode the Ironton Bike trail when I was up last October. We are planning on riding the Lehigh Gorge Rail-Trail sometime this year. Hope you are able to find a safe commute to work. Good luck and stay safe.
