I'm considering purchasing a Miyata 912 off craigslist. It's in remarkably good shape, all original Shimano 600 components. The frame is near perfect, only some scuffs on the top tub from a u-lock. The seller is asking $300, but it's set up as a single speed right now, so I'd have to get the crankset and everything put back on. What do you think?

If you can do the work yourself, it's not a bad deal. The 912 was pretty high in the Miyata hierarchy.
Check this page out for a scan of the original 1986 brochure for that model (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_whtVpXkKwlQ/R1okkOqjNcI/AAAAAAAAARE/S5UKwIrOctw/s1600-h/img104.jpg). It will give you some insight.

Good Luck!

the derailuers are there and he is using it as a single speed with a single cog Fwheel? look at the crank, it is likely the orginal crank with the 'big' ring taken off. see if he will take 250 cash and work from there. can't hurt

I sold 1 a couple years age for $350. Just saw it on craigs list the other day for $475. thats the Philly market your area may vary. The local shop around here has the 600 crank set with biopace rings for $20.

Nice bike. I tried to buy a really pretty light blue and white one for $300, he wouldn't sell it.
