Mountain Biking - 03' DirtJumper 2 Disc Sizes

Can anyone confirm what size rotor will fit on a 03' Marzocchi DirtJumper 2 with the regular QR? The Marz site says it is setup for a 6"(160mm), but would an 8"(203mm) work with an adaptor? I think I'm going to run the Avid Mech's (for simplicity, adjustability, cost, and it's probably more stopping power then I would need), but I would like to run the 8" rotor if possible.

I'd say you should go 6" like there website said. Just because you wanted to keep it simple and you don't think you will need the stopping power.

You can use either a 6 or an 8 without a problem. People might try and tell you that an 8 is too much for standard dropouts, but thats simply a myth. 8 will work fine.

If you go with a QR-20 thru hub axle, you will ONLY be able to run an 8" (unless you bastardise the adapter like I did). If you go with standard drop-outs, you can use either one.

That's not true. They have QR20 6 inch adaptors. He can run what he wants.

Really? I couldn't find any. The only ones I could find for my Z1 were for 8". I'd really like to "unbastardize" my bike. I can either get an 8" rotor and a new adapter or stick with my 6" rotor and just get a new adapter.

Do you have a link or a resorce for the 6" adapter?

Hayes offers a 6" adaptor. I run one on my 2002 z1 fr. No mods needed :D...

When I got my new Z-1, my adapter from my Psylo wouldn't work, so I figured I'd just buy a new one. Lo and behold, I couldn't find one for a 6" rotor, only the 8" if I had the QR-20 option.

The adaptor for a 20mm fork and a QR fork are not the same. The QR adaptor is a bit wider, they are available from Hayes.

Oh sorry...I ended up using the same adaptor with spacers...my mistake.

Hey FoX, Do you have the QR20 (through axle) setup, or the regular QR?

For you guys who are running the spacers with the adaptors, does it degrade the brakes quality at all, or is it just a cosmetic concern for you? Depending on the thickness, I'd think flex would become an issue? (I'm a heavy fella remember)

One more question for ya, I use mostly my rear brakes, atleast 99.9% of the time so I keep them dialed in, (BMX heritage I guess) but when I do use my front brakes, I want them to be almighty powerful (after all, if I wanted crappy brakes I'd just take my feet off the pedals and drag em') so would I see a huge difference in stopping power using a 6" rotor upfront, and going with the beefier 8" out back? By the way I have no qurrals(<-spell check me) using a spacer or two so long as it doesn't directly affect the stopping power

It doesn't degrade braking quality in the least.

On trails you should learn to use more front, regardless of background. But yes, 8inches makes a big difference in braking power.

QR20 :p The Haro has 8" in front and 6" in back. So i'm not sure about stopping power. From my experience with this bike (only had it a il over a week) the 6" rotors work fine. I've never used an adapter so can't really answer that.
