Introductions - new rider
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello all. Just started riding and was looking around for feedback on a good all around bike when I was directed to this website. Seems to be very informative, and I really enjoy reading everyones "real world" stories and useful information. I live in Texas, and actually what started me riding was my 4 year old son who LOVES riding his bike, so we ride together as a family. I am sure that I will have plenty of dumb questions that have already been answered, but look forward to everyones opinion & feedback.

Find the most helpful bike shop. Then go back there with your son and let him help you choose a bike. Reasonable bikes start at about $300 and you get noticable improvements in quality up tp $700 but beyond that you really have to know what you are looking for. What about a bike for Mom? Then you could do rides together to picnics or ice cream shops. My daughter did a 20 mile bikeathon when she was 4 1/2. Her daughter is only just starting to ride on 2 wheels at 6.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!! It's funny what AndrewP suggested... that is exactly what I have been doing. I took my 5 year old with me to the store, and had him help me pick a bike, and he picked the exact one that I liked!!! (Trek 4300 - Matte Black :thumb:) We also picked one for Momma too. He really enjoys riding as a family - so how can you say no to that???
Welcome to the forums. Tons of Texans on here, so make sure to stop by the Texas regional forum as well as the family cycling forum.
I was talking to one of the dad's in our cub scout pack the other night and he just did the Richardson Wild Ride recently with his oldest son on a trail a bike and his youngest son in a trailer behind the trail a bike and dear old dad pulling the three of them on his bike.
BTW, what part of Texas are you in?
Oh, and don't worry about asking stupid questions, thats how I started out!
