Living Car Free - My car is finally gone

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
After a couple months of dealing with craigslist shoppers my car is finally gone. I am walking the talk now.

Congrats.
We thought about doing that once but ran into the following problems.
1. My parents live two hours away. No trains or buses run there and I don't have a credit card to rent a car.
2. We'd have no way to get the dog to the vet. Too far to walk and cabs won't allow dogs.
My wife still has her car so I do have an insurance policy. It's still is a huge step for me though.
I am walking the talk now.

Im jealous. I have a Yaris. I want it gone. I over paid anyway and it is much to small. It has a lot of miles and is an 2007. No one is going to pay what I owe so I am stuck. I have thought about sending it back. The economy is bad. I can claim the bank motto: "It's the economy. I invested poorly." Then I hope someone will bail me out. I have voluntarily repo'd in the past. I paid the difference and it did not impact my credit much. It was negligible. I was car free and debt free once. Every time I get in a relationship my debt increases. Once the relationship ends: I unload the debt. Literally. Im over car payments. And I pay way too much for the Yaris. And Im embarrassed to drive it to a certain degree. Car driving for the majority of people is directly related to vanity. In any event, yeah I love Craigslist but there are many people on there selling junk. But I can spend hours on there searching and looking at things.
Congrats to you!I have a scooter and a bike. I ride them a lot to make get over my guilt and frustration at being a car owner. :(

Is it a big dog? Cuz you could take a small one in the taxi (or even on the bus) inside a pet carrier.

Get a bike trailer! Your dog would probably love it.

Yes, many dogs love riding in the trailer; some do not. One guy near me rides with two trailers behind his bike, and two dogs. But I always see the one dog riding in the trailer while the other one runs alongside the "bike train".

OK, I gotta ask, how far is 2 hours, I live in Utah and we don't measure distance in hours, our dog rides in the kennel in my NAshbar trailer.

I notice in the city most measure distance in time, in rural it is usually measured in miles, kind of strange.

Not at all, in the city, depending on time of day, a ten mile trip could be 10 minutes or 2 hours.
