I am about to build up a fancy little city bike and reviewing all the part possibilities. One thing that I can't resolve is whether or not to buy a pair of Honjo Fenders. I know they are really nice, but don't have any direct information about their durability versus chromoplastic. This bike will get thousands of city miles a year and I am worried about those pretty things getting dented, dinged and bent through all the use. Does anybody have any experience with them in daily use bikes?

Had them. Not as durable as my current sks fenders. And you will have to get some leather washers to keep them from making all kinds of noise.

I've never owned a set, but I've installed a few... very pretty. My money would be on not as durable as plastic fenders (especially not 3 sets of plastic fenders for the same price)

I would put them on a sunday best bike but not on a daily ride.

Honjo, fenders with panache.....I would like to see something similar in copper.

That's what I thought. I want the bike to be nice, but it will be used almost daily for 6-8 months of the year.

Here's something close: Tanaka in brass

I saw some of the hammered Honjos the other day on a commuter. If they were dented, it was hard to tell.

I thought about the hammered variety but really like the smooth fluted style and am really afraid they would show any abuse or wear really badly.

Thanks for all the comments, especially from a mechanic. I think the plastic is still the most practical for a daily ride around. I've never been one to build a bike for display, they gotta be ridden!

i've gotten nearly 2k+ miles on my honjos, in 4-season biking (some mean winters with salt, sand, and 35mm studded tyres)---absolutely no problems. i replaced my sks fenders with these, because double stainless stays on light-weight fenders meant terrible vibration (would actually bounce off the front tyre if i rode one-handed---bad design). plus, the honjos are longer (more protection), and imo look better. check out velo orange's honjo knock-offs for an excellent price point (less than sks, and a better product). [disclaimer: i don't get nothin' from velo orange for that plug]
