I know there are websites out there dedicated to this sort of thing, but sometimes it takes awhile to sort the wheat from the chaff...
Anyhow, one of my cats decided that my 3-month old IKEA Karlstadt couch looked like a great place to take a dump. We bought this couch in part because the slipcovers are removable and washable, but I still had to suppress the urge to skin her alive...
The slipcovers are light blue cloth with a tight weave. Laundry instructions say Machine wash 60, no bleach, no tumble dry, iron on high, dry cleanable.
I might have gone about washing it all wrong. I took the unsoiled slipcover off, set the washer to Permanent Press long cycle, Cold/Cold, and used my regular Tide liquid. Washed both covers together to help keep the machine balanced. Looks like I could have/should have used hot water.
The problem is that the stain is still there. I tried to get as much of the poop off as I could, but some was more liquid. Used an antibacterial wipe to try and wipe/soak more of it up, but it didn't really help.
I can wash it again, but don't want to make things worse than they already are. I'm willing to try pretreatments, vinegar in the washer, etc. But really don't want to set the stain if possible. New slipcovers are available, but not for free.
Any advice would be appreciated.
