I've had a trusty pair of Costa Del Mar shades that have been my main shades for many, many years.

They are no good on the golf course due to the full frame...sweat gets in the lens and pools up around the lower lens/frame junction.

Thinking of getting a new pair for riding, walking, golf, etc....perhaps without the lower frame.

Just wondering what the XL headed guys have found to be good....also what lens colors are best.

When I bought my Tifosi Stelivo glasses it specifically said they were better for the larger faces (medium to large, instead of small to medium as some of their other glasses say). I've found them to be comfortable and not pinch or hurt around the ears like so many glasses do.

They may even have a lens for golf, but I'm not sure. Take a look at the Tifosi website.

I really don't care for any of the sunshades available today. I miss the Oakley Eyeshades. After those everything else is second rate.

Look at the Wiley X line, the PT-1's are good for wider heads.. I use the PT-3's, both model use removable lenses.. 3 shades, clear, smoke and amber lenses.. Good deals can be found on ebay, a lot of soldiers were issued these glasses and never used them in IRAQ and Afghanistan..

Optic Nerve has some good glasses at a reasonable price. Get a pair that has no frame on the bottom of the lens. They make some nice photochromatic lenses as well.

+1 for no frame on the bottom, also try for a pair without a frame on the side either. I have a pair of large ray bans with a thick plastic frame. On the top and bottom, it helps sweat cling onto the lenses easier, and on the sides I basically have a blind spot at the very extreme sides of my vision, which is a disadvantage.

I'm happy with my Native Eyewear Nano^2

Vented at the top bar of the frame, mostly frameless design. Lightweight. Comes with 2 lenses (used to be 4) but you can get the clear ones for only 7 bucks. They come with a glare coated clear-ish lens, and a polarized brown. There's about 10 others you can get for $20 - $40/pair.

Thanks for all the good leads.

It's nice to know there are some great choices without having to spend crazy $$$$.

As for the golf....yeah...I'm a hack...17.2 handicap currently, though haven't played but 2 rounds this past month...and yes...both rounds were riding rounds....it was at or over 100 degrees during both rounds!!!! Even the guys in great shape in our group were firm on riding.

Back in April my son and I were able to go to our home course and see Boo Weekly give a clinic...that's his bag in the background of one pic. I had an opportunity to meet him afterwards. He's a funny guy who really put on a great clinic.

Biking is going to be great as it brings my wife into play for us to have an active hobby that we can all enjoy.

I'll check into some of those sunglass leads....I think I have some Paypal credit....may opt for a transaction on ebay.

Thanks

The Zeal Optics Maestro fit great, even with my XL size pumpkin (I rock the Bell Triton XL helmet. sheesh). The Zeals are ~$100, rugged, polarized, with a nice copper-red tinting. I have an Rx pair with lenses by Sports Optical.

I've been extremely happy with the Oakley XXs that I have had for the last 5 years.

I've got a large head too, i shopped around and the best fit i found where the Smith v-ti:

http://www.smithoptics.com/V-ti_30_234.html

they come with 3 lenses, clear mirror, mid range polarized ignitor, and polarized browm for real sunny days, i love them, easy the change the lenses, great optics and they come in a nice carrying case, and i got them at a great discount at my LBS, (80$$$) The polarized helps a lot and stops the glare of the water when you have to search for golf balls...;)

I'm presently using a pair of Uvex industrial safety glasses with yellow replaceable lenses. They look like the older Oakleys. Just something I pulled out of the hall closet - my beloved bought them but found they didn't work for him. It's very dusty and windy here, so I really like the larger lenses, even though my face isn't big. The arms slide in or out to accommodate different reaches from ear to nose.
I like orange lenses for bright sunlight and yellow for everything else.

I think I have the problem solved.

I went looking around in a few stores today.....the Oakley Radar Range combination seemed to be the ticket. I just couldn't find the lens I wanted.

I found what I was looking for online and am now at the mercy of the mail.

These things shed moisture like nothing I've ever seen....should work out well. I hope these properties last.

Smith and Wesson branded shades from TSC - ten bucks. They work for me, adjustable, sturdy enough to last a season. They are shooting glasses I believe.

haha so i'm not the only one... I'm using a pair of winchester shooting glasses... yellow lenses, camo "frame"... it's a frameless design with the arms must mounted to the top outer edge of the lenses... $10... and the yellow lenses are AWESOME in the woods... really brings up the clarity and details in the woods... I take it for granted most of the time now... but yesterday when I was racing daylight on the trail (I won... got to the car with 10 min till dusk to spare)... when I pulled the glasses off everything got a lot darker... I picked them out because I needed something cheap at the time... went to walmart and looked at shooting glasses... these ones fit well and worked fine with the "shake your head like a crazy person" test

my fav is still old school Oakley M frames... I had a few of em (all given to me over a few years)... they have gone somewhere... I'll buy another pair eventualy... but right now i'm the budget isn't going to allow that

I wear a pair of Oakley HalfJacket XLJ's-the lenses are interchangeable and are a little larger (my favorite are the amber ones-man those brighten up the morning) . I just sold the set Ive had for 3.5 years for 50 bucks and put that towards a new pair. You can buy new nose pads, ear grips and all that too. Mine are the SI type with the subdued logos (the ones the cops/military can wear) so they don't scream "Oakley" either.

I'm also using shooting glasses. These, in fact (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F7P1VG/). I have a clear pair for dusk/night and the blue mirror for bright sun. Love 'em and they're cheap cheap cheap. Great visual clarity, big enough to cover a large face and keep all the wind and gravel out of your eyes. Frameless so if your head is down, your vision is not obscured by a frame.

Looks like I'm gonna be swimming in sunglasses soon...the Oakley Radar Range pair will arrive mid week next week, I found an old pair the other day that I'm gonna sent back to Mau Jim for refurbing and It looks like I'm winning a bid for a NIB lower budget pair on ebay.

I'd like to have a pair for staged in each car and the Oakleys as my main pair that travel with me.

It sucks going without them.
