i'm a cat V racer and have done a few races, but the next one im doing is a little different. the cat IV's and the cat V's start at the same time. separate places are given for each category, but i'm just wondering what to expect in terms of the race. i feel like i'll have no idea where the cat V's are...will the bib numbers be in different ranges? will it be a really splintered race (it is a 60km road race)? anyway, these are probably questions that can't really be answered because it varies from race to race, but i'm sure some people will have some advice. what i am really wondering is why they start the two races together rather than just starting them a few minutes apart.

thanks!

Since its a road race, having it start together will be easier as far as traffic is concerned, at least in the beginning. It also saves time.

There should be a differecnce in bib numbers for the 4's vs. the 5's. But you may not be able to see them if they are only on one side of the riders.

As far as the splintering of the race, that depends on the course a lot.

There will be 5's out there who are strong, and 4's who are weak, so just finish as high as you can.
