... and looks like it's going to continue for Sunday. I'm thinking OLH, Haskins Hill, Tunitas Creek. Probably start early, like 8 am at Gunn HS in Palo Alto. I'm hot just typing this.

In the bay area. What over 100. Some summer days in Calif's interior a trainer in front of an a/c duct seems to be in order.

Santa Cruz was around 70 degrees late this afternoon, with a slight breeze. That's gotta' be the the place to ride tomorrow!

I was up above Nevada City in the town of North Bloomfield. The swimming holes along the South Yuba River were welcomed (as were the girls in bikinis)

It was 106 F today for the Climb to Kaiser. The last 15 miles in the Valley heat were no picnic, so expect little sympathy from Kaiser participants!

That last 15 miles killed me. Its one of the few times I ever seriously considered SAGing in. The only thing that kept me going was the thought that I wouldn't have been able to live with myself if I DNF'd so close to the finish.

It was hot yesterday. I don't like the heat. I know, wrong place to live, but this is where I am. Rides in this heat will be scaled back affairs.

I did a paradise loop yesterday from SF. I felt like I was baking when I went through Sausalito. No relief until Tiburon.

Ramon, Michael and I rode OLH, Haskins Hill, to Pescadero, Stage, and back via Tunitas. What was interesting was it was foggy out at the coast. It was a nice break from the heat. The fog went away as soon as we got to the Bike Hut, so back to the heat it was. By the time we got down Kings, it was around 98 F. By the time I got to Sand Hill, it registered 100 F ...

I had planned three Mt Diablo climbs today. The first climb was a bit warm but didn't slow me down too much. Mid way up the second climb it was hitting 100 (http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=MC4622) and the heat kept pushing me into anaerobic territory so I had to back way off. By the time I'd cooled down at the summit and returned to the the South Gate it was maxing out at 105. I passed on the third climb.

I got up at 6am and did a 40 mile loop out to Livermore and back. Stopped at Peet's Coffee in Danville for a cool drink, and then hustled on home and made it indoors by 10:30.

Took a shower, but didn't stop sweating for what seemed like an hour. :twitchy:

Sounds like the same weather as yesterday. I may try again for 3 this week since it looks like the temps will be back into the mid 80s by mid week.

Ha! I came down 49 from Cool at about 3pm. The temps up in Cool were easily 105. As we dropped into the canyon, I felt at least a 5 degree temperature increase. It was a big bowl of HOT!

Yikes, at 3 it was probably worse than what I hit! Nasty!

I left from Auburn around 6:40 and did Iowa Hill & up to Robinson Flat. Should have left at 6, but couldn't bring myself to get out of bed around 5.

Going up to Robinson's wasn't bad at all, but that furnace winds starting kicking up near Foresthill. Found a new water source (well pump at Robinson's flat - excellent, cold water!). Also glad to spend some quality time dousing myself at the hose bib at Worton's :) before hitting the bridge!

^That's the Auburn century pretty much! I've been trying to get a ride out there with friends but have no clue where to get water after Colfax. Any water between Iowa Hill and Foresthill road? Maybe Sugar Pine res?

Yep, that's it pretty much it! I skipped the trip down by bear river and the return through Yankee Jim's off Foresthill.

My water ski/riding buddy took me on the Auburn/Iowa Hill 72 mile loop a few years ago and showed me the prime water stops:

- In Iowa Hill there is a small school on your right after the store/town area. The drinking fountain has always worked. There is also a small store in Iowa Hill, but I haven't been in it yet. Auburn to the school is 28 +/- miles depending on where we leave from. It usually takes me about 2:10 and 2 water bottles are sufficient. I now skip the water stop in Colfax (previously stopped at the Chevy dealer in colfax, but they ripped out the drinking fountain and I realized I didn't need the stop). Although I must admit I had a slight moment of panic today when the button on the school faucet appeared to be stuck.:o

- Sugar Pine Reservior: 7 miles/1300 ft ascent from the school, has pit toilets and water immediately on your left when you pull into the parking lot. Let the water run a little to get rid of the metallic taste.

If I leave from Granite Bay, I fill up at the Chevron on Foresthill road/lincoln highway before heading out of Auburn.

New stop today, Robinson Flat: I was doing a solo ride, so I threw a 3rd empty bottle in my jersey and filled it up at Sugar Pine. I had heard there was water in robinson flat, but wasn't 100% sure. I was also worried that I couldn't make it up w/ 3 bottles from Sugar Pine.

I mooched some water from a nice camper on the way up just to be safe and he confirmed the well pump. Made it to robinson flat, and found the BEST water ever on a ride :). When you get up there, you follow the gravel/dirt road on the right into the camping area. Stop by the pit toilet. Below in the meadow is a well pump station. Filled up, and headed back down to the furnace.

Thanks for the great info GB! The climb to Robinson Flat is awesome. Glad to find out it can be done unsupported.
