Heya all, I have recently acquired my first bike since I was a child and started poking around for some info on bike accessories etc and stumbled upon this forum and thought I would join up, I posted in the intro area and was pointed here. I have recently lost a ton of weight (not literally obviously but its more than 200 pounds, yes two hundred pounds that's not a typo lol) and I did it by walking/running and riding a stationary bike so in a basic progression am moving onto a normal bike, I bought a K2 Zed 3.2 and just took it out for her maiden voyage this morning in fact and man did it kick my behind! literally! I think a new seat will be in order sooner than later

I am a father of 2 and a husband to a lovely lady and I think that biking can help me progress further into my weight loss regimen while adding range and a change of scenery as well as a bit of cross training to add to my walking/running program. I stand 6'5'' tall and I started out over 500 pounds and right now weigh 333 pounds after about 17 months of better eating and way more exercise, I have always loved riding a bike but for obvious reasons stopped but I am back, with this new bike I am hoping to change up my exercise routine a bit for the warmer months and keep the weight coming off all while enjoying the road. Any opinions on the K2 bikes is welcomed as well as anything that could make riding more enjoyable for a larger stature fellow that I may be missing or is not obvious.

I am looking forward to gaining lots of knowledge that will help my biking and that's me in a nutshell.

Thanks for reading

Congrats on the weight loss. Cycling is a good way to keep it off.

Well, I don't have any feedback on the K2 series since I don't know anything about them. If you are happy with it and you ride it is a good bike by default though!

One thing to consider about your saddle is to give it some time. It's way different than your stationary bike and you body position shifts around more while on a bike. It's pretty normal for it to take some time to toughen up the soft tissue and break in the sit bones.:twitchy: It's also fairly normal for a saddle to be a person's first "upgrade", lol.

Welcome to the herd, and congrats on an impressive effort so far!

Welcome and good job. I was 400 and I'm down to 305 so far.

Thanks for all of the responses! txvintage, I do think I will give the seat that came on the bike a while to see if it gets more comfy but right now I feel like I have been violated from yesterdays ride! lol I did do some looking around and found that it may have been positioned too low and may explain the burn in the fronts of my legs but that will be found out tomorrow as I am planning another spin around the lake that I live on :)

so far I am getting loads of info from this forum and look forward to learning more.

Some padded shorts or bibs will help a lot with that feeling of violation. I remember the first time I got onto a narrow saddle (Actually, it was too small, period....), I dismounted the bike and I swear I heard a sound like a champagne cork popping as the saddle cleared my at that time, enormous posterior. Some shorts with a padded chamois helped that out immensely!

Burn in the quads or knee pain is a sure sign of a saddle adjustment waiting to happen. Don't get caught up in the desire to be able to sit on the saddle and put your feet on the ground. Your saddle position should be in relation to your pedals, and stand over the cross bar to put your feet on the ground.

Welcome Push and congratulations on your results so far. Just remember, spandex is for when you hit 300, otherwise you might look a little "big" ;).
