Anyone doing this race:
http://www.evolutioncycling.org/

The cat 4 field is maxed out at 120. Thats the biggest field I will have ever raced in. I'm looking forward to it.

Reston is a great course in a "downtown" setting that is very FAST. I would suggest pre riding the course. I thought 120 riders in the race sounded a bit high, and I was right check out the email I received from the promoters. I hope you aren't wait listed!

We have made a mistake. We have allowed the Cat 3/4 field to become
overbooked. We were using an assumption from the first year of the race
with different officials and to our recollection a different rule on the
maximum number of riders in a field without posting on the race flyer
nor did we come close to 100 racers in a field the first couple of
years. The 3/4 field will be limited to 100 racers for safety concerns.
We could appeal this matter with USA Cycling but we choose not to for
safety reasons.

We have a few options for the unfortunate that signed up after 100
racers were met. First we have placed all racers beyond the 100 mark on
the Wait List for the 3/4 race. The wait list is available for you to
see at BikeReg.com (see link below). To resolve this issue your options
are:

1.) We will provide a $5 refund if you switch to any other field that
you qualify for. Please send email to chrisconway@starpower.net to
create the change.
2.) Remain on the wait list and hope that some racers do not show up on
race day
3.) Or, we will provide a full refund issued the week after the race if
you do not race

Evolution Cycling apologizes to the racers this affects. We know this
will disappoint several racers and hope that you understand that the
safety of the entire group is more important than the few racers this
will affect.

Please refer to BikeReg.com to see where you stand on the Cat 3/4 wait
list. There are no guarantees that you will get into the field but it
is reasonable that a few racers may not show.

Cat 5 was full so I'm riding the 30+ race. You might see if you can squeeze in there if you're old enough. Should be super fast.

Thanks for the heads up on that. Damn I am wait listed! I just looked at the confirmed list yesterday and I was on it with a field of 120. I could of sworn when I registered there were only about 50 names up there so I wonder how they went about bumping people off the list? Anyway I'm going to be in Reston that day so I may as well show up. I'm only about 4 or 5 on the wait list if that means anything.

Good Idea thanks for that. I just may do that. I was hoping to race in such a large field though. The 30 plus only has 17 in it now. Oh well at least there is less danger for a crash :)

The one thing I don't get is there is Mens 1/2/3 and Mens 3/4 so there is overlapping of cat 3's ?
So why not just bump all the 3,s in Mens 3/4 to Mens 1/2/3. Oh well I'm sure they have there reasons...

grrr.. this sucks... I may not even show up seeing as I'm almost LAST on the wait list. :( i dont think there are going to be that many people that do not show up.

LOL... I just looked again and I'm actually listed twice! thats funny...

well... good luck to you all... next year i think I'm going to preregister in january!

The 30+ races in this area are smoking fast and hard! I usually have to race a few 3/4 and 1/2/3 races before I can hang in them. As a rule the 30+ races are safer ( we have jobs/families/mortgage payments).

In two words "race experience". New Cat 3's and Cat 4's are often regarded as bottlerockets. Plenty of speed and power, but no control (as in handling). By overlapping categories it allows a racer thinking about upgrading a chance to race there new category without permanently upgrading. There isn't really much difference from 3 to 4, but 3 to 2 is a world of difference. The distances, speed and the increased amount of time for training is significant.

Well the cat 3/4 group was definatly bottlerockets. I managed to squeeze in as I was only 3rd on the wait list. The thing that is bad about that is I had my girlfriend pinning my number on with 1 minute before the race start and of course I started at the back of a field 100 deep. I was happy enough to finish the race in the main field. Those riders were definatly strong but there was 3 accidents and lots of breaking in the corners. At one point about 10 guys including myself fell off the back in a wicked head wind, then me and one other guy got it together and pulled back to the main field, that was a fun part of the race for me. I am guessing that 40 -50 riders finished the race. The course was great. The fast corners were nice and wide and the weather was beautiful.

Was that you that sped up right after the 3/4 field left?

I made it about 20 minutes into the 30+ race before I was lapped by the leader and had to retire. Guess I need to do a little more training.

No I made it to the line at about 1 minute to go. I ride a red Leader bike and was wearing a plain blue/black jersey and have long hair and a beard. I was basically hanging on to the back of the field for the whole race. When I think about it again if I ever get put on a wait list I won't bother going to the race. It was too nerve racking to be in such a hurry :( Still fun though and a hell of a workout :)

Yes. That long steady uphill to the finish sure put the hurt on me. It sure was a fun course though.
