Utility Cycling - Grocery cart attached to bike rack.

Hello everyone. I just starting riding again like 2 months ago. I live in NYC. My goal is to start commuting by bike by the end of the year, when I move closer to my job. I'm also trying to figure out a way to carry my groceries from the supermarket to my apartment. After doing some research on this website and others I realized that getting a trailer is just not practical for me, however, I did find this one post on a previous thread in which someone was able to attach a folding grocery cart to the bike. This would be perfect for me. Here's a pic:

I tried to contact the user, but haven't received a reply yet. I'm trying to figure out how to attach the cart to my rack. Does it have to be welded together, or what do I need to to?

I already have the bike of course, and I also have a car very similar to that one but with much stronger wheels so I just need to figure out how to attach the two and I'll be all set.

The person there just used a couple plastic 'zip-ties' to attach the cart handle to the rack. These are one-use only but you can get a pretty big bag of them for a dollar or two so it's not too bad to just snip them off after each trip. But keep your speed down and watch for bumps. Grocery cart wheels aren't really made for hitting potholes at speed.

Thank you so much. Now I see what he did. Regarding the speed, thanks for the advice. I have better wheels on the car, and also I already know the roads and there aren't many potholes, plus the farthest I'll go is 1.5 miles one-way.

For me, I don't like pulling a cart. Since the farthest you have to go is 1.5 miles, I would add double rear baskets, [ some are folding ] fastened to a rear rack with a spring loaded bar, & a front basket that hangs on the handlebars, that has a handle built in, & is removeable. You can carry a lot with this combo !

Thanks for the advice. The biggest item I carry on my cart is usually a rather wide box a milk (some times two) which wouldn't fit any basket. That's why I definitely need the cart, but thanks anyway.

Try a couple Grocery Bag Panniers from Performance. They are great, and easily carry full, large, paper grocery bags. Fold flat when not being used.

Thank you so much. I already got the answer that I needed because what I wanted to to attached the grocery cart to my bike. I buy from Costco, and these boxes would never fit a basket or panniers.
