I'm from Germany and I will visite Texas Oktober 2009. So I want to ride with a roadbike for just about one week or little more. It is possible to rent a fine bike in Austin? Can you give me informations about nice routs near Austin, Highland Lakes, San Antonio, Hill country? Or something special?
Rides from 50 to 100 miles a day are nice and easy.

There are several shops in the Austin area that will rent a roadbike to you.
One is Mellow Johnnys in Downtown (Mellowjohnnys.com), they rent a Trek 2.3 for $40/day.
Another good place is Bicycle Sport Shop (http://bicyclesportshop.com/page.cfm?PageID=174)
They have Specialized Roubaix Triple, Trek Madone 5.1, or Serotta HSG (Dura-Ace). Prices vary, and they have a multi-day discount. Any of the shops in the area can give you tips on places to ride in the area.

When you arrive, go to any large book store and get this atlas:
It contains detailed maps of every road in the state. This includes the small roads that have little car traffic and the best scenery.
When you ask at the bike shops, use the book to mark the interesting routes.
Also, use the www.mapmyride.com (http://www.mapmyride.com) website to search near the cities where you'll visit, for routes that other cyclists have mapped.
Example: near Fredericksburg there's a great route called the Willow City loop - highly recommended.
