Commuting - Good storage solution for a commuter

Dear All:

I am a commuter that likes to take a lot of things with me and sometimes stop by the grocery store after work. I am trying out this:

They seem nice but are very bumpy and somewhat small. I am also afraid things will fall out.

The other alternative I am considering are Avenir panniers but it seems like these could just easily get up and go so I would always have to take them with me.

Anyhow, looking forward to any suggestions for something that might be:
(i) good storage
but
(ii) somewhat attached.

I kinda like the baskets. I was thinking I never had baskets on a bike, but that is not ture. I had a big handle bar basket on a 1970 raliegh 3 speed. Probably a good idea for what you want to do. heck, if the milk leaks baskets wont stink.

I wonder how much of a racket they will make

I Like it, although it is a bit small so it will not hold everything.

My wife uses the wald folding baskets and loves them. It's pretty unlikely something would fall out unless it's pretty top heavy.

I have on my bike and I like them. They are quite, the latches hold them tight when closed. Recommended. When installing be sure to place them far enough to the rear of the rack that you can access rear brakes to service them.

I must admit, for shopping they seem to be ideal. How much do they weigh and do they come in black? :)

Thanks guys. I guess I'll try them for a while. My only other idea would be a foldable pannier that somehow attaches to the frame more than just clip on. Any good links for the Keter box btw? I can't seem to find on Google.

Not that it's practical for all commuters, but I just put the Wald 157GB (Giant Delivery Basket) on my utility bike. 21" x 15" x 9", with the basket liner. Seriously, I can fit 3 full bags of groceries in this monstrous thing! I use a 4-hooked bungee cargo net to secure things from bouncing out of the basket.

I am thinking I just might order a set of these as long as they are not a rattle box

i also use the folding basket. typical push my overstuffed backpack in there, and have ulocks on other side of the rack to counter blance it. the folding basket works really well, unless its empty then it jumps and raddles around, unless folded up. i've been really happy with mine, even when my bag weights 30pounds it works perfectly.

i've tried the milkcrate ontop of the rack. what a bad idea was that. not only did it look ugly, but it raised the center of graviety of the bike so much that jut walking my bike i could easly lose control and it wold slide out under me and hit me or something else. if i was riding my bike and a car came to close and cliped me or say i had to swerve i could very easy lose all control of the bike. the other thing that sucked was having to bungie my bag(mine was a large retangular tray they use to hold 2 liter cocola bottoles.) really the folding basket is much better.

Yes, they come in black - I have them in this color on my Trek hybrid I use for commuting/groceries and my only wish is that I had tried them sooner. I had tried baskets, panniers, bags, etc.
These things rock.

I prefer my Topeak panniers, they are build to last :) and it's multi funtional

I love the Walds! Super easy to use (a bit of a pain to install depending on rack size) and really allows for flexibility. I ride on a lot of uneven MUPs and the rattling is really quite minimal. Get them at Amazon for $23 delivered or support your LBS.

Also, if you head over to a grocery store the "insulated" reusable grocery bags (that zip at the top) make great on-the-go liners.

I don't think my Post rack will accommodate them. They appear to need more support than a post rack provides

Sorry, but no. Our local 'Blokker (http://www.blokker.nl)' sells them for 10 Euro. It is not on their website though :(
