Texas - What's up with Wheels in Motion?

Their Richardson store is gone and I was just in the Dallas store (Lovers and Greenville) and it was nearly empty. They had maybe 10 pieces of clothing for sale, plus a bunch of clearance items. Lots of wasted floor space and two employees doing absolutely nothing.

Are these guys in trouble?

I was in the Dallas sore a couple of days ago looking for new gloves and they had almost nothing to speak of. So, I went to RBM. Ding! WiM had a bunch of bikes, but they don't do the accessories thing much. Maybe they feel they can't compete with the online stores?

Debo's in Arlington has the same thing. I was in a while ago, and they had 4 bikes, 2 of which were used.

They had a few parts and components, and recently closed for a bit. Now they are trying to rent the front part of the building...

I went there to buy a Cannondale road bike, and they weren't able to order one for me. They spent quite a bit of time with me, but just didn't have the inventory. They refunded my money and I ended up buying the bike from Plano Cycling. I agree with the wasted space, but they were pretty helpful when I was there [six weeks ago or so] and offered a year's worth of adjustments with the bike. Maybe at the beginning of the season, when their distributor has more in stock, they could have helped me out; they didn't have many accessories either.

Does anyone know how their service is?

Fits the usual pattern of a shop about to go under - the reason they don't have inventory is becuase they haven't paid their bills and suppliers won't ship anymore.

I'm not saying this is the case with Wheels, I have no information about it. Just saying that's the usual pattern.

So... a free years worth of adjustments isn't worth much, unless you expect the retailer to still be in business.

They have great service there. I have been buying bikes there since 1995.

Weird that you were not able to get a Cannondale for you. All the Cannondales go through the same sales rep so it really does not matter where you go. Maybe PC&F had one in stock?

I think Wheels in Motion does well because of all the walk-in repair traffic. If you look in the back, they always have a couple dozen bikes being repaired. That's bread and butter money for a bike shop. Plus they do a good job as a Cannondale dealer.

Anyways, they have some really good long term employees there.

Performance Bike on Walnut Hill did have really great prices when they first opened, but now they are charging full price for components.
