Hello all you bike enthusiast, I'm new to this forum so please bear with me. I recently transfered to a college nearby and with the MTA fare hike I decided to start commuting to school on bike. I'm looking to buy a bike right now for around $300 +/- $50, and I've done my research and I already know that I am really pushing my luck but I figure I'd just get a used bike. My trail is pretty much just pavement, a straight shot about half hour on bike, I'm estimating. These are my choices right now:

I know these bikes aren't high end models, but I'm a college student and I'm paying for this bike myself and I also have to save up money for books and tuition so I can't really afford to splurge. I really appreciate you taking time to read and help me out! If you have any other suggestions for bikes or anything else please feel free to comment.

Thank You!

I'ld choose the Schwinn World Sport. Looks to be an eighties model, and comes with the 30 day warranty.

I'd go with the World Sport too.....I miss mine.

I do have a question about the Cutter....the ad says that the tires are "frictionless". Do they allow you to fly? I've never seen "frictionless" tires before. Beware ads and shops that violate the laws of physics.

Well...if you are commuting 30 mins or so I'd say anyone of those bikes would do the job. There is nothing wrong with buying used. I ride old used bikes myself but I don't ride far and live in an urban area. My commute to work is 10-15 mins depending on traffic. The only reason I'd ride for 30 mins would be to get accross town for a social function or to just take a leisurely ride on the MUP. I don't need a high end road bike for my purposes.

Good luck with your commute!
