Pacific Northwest - Portland's Pedalpalooza is over...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

...and that makes Scott a sad panda. :(

Seriously, there was more awesome packed into those 17 days than I thought could be possible. The Portland bike scene has opened up a whole new aspect of bicycling that I had never experienced before - bike fun. Riding my bike used to be all about the fitness challenges, the scenery, or getting someplace when commuting. But lately I've been on some amazing rides with people who just like to have a good time on their bikes.

What were your favorite parts of Pedalpalooza?

* I enjoyed seeing people come out on their front porches to smile and wave during the kickoff ride
* Laughed when the daytime naked ride dropped by the Cirque du Cycling
* Quenched my thirst for water and knowledge during the Benson Bubbler ride
* Got to see some interesting Buddhist centers on the Buddhas by Bike ride
* Saw the streets come alive during NoPo Sunday Parkways
* Discovered the logistics of eating pizza with 100+ other riders on the pizza ride

My only regrets are not having more time to participate. Next year I'm definitely going to set aside some vacation time to use for this, and will probably lead a ride or two as well.

Scott

Twas a fantastic year.
I did the pizza ride up until 1 am at hammys
I did the solstice ride from 9pm to 5:30am hitting the two highest peaks in portland
The bike Kiss-in was fun
And the dead freeways ride was wicked informative.
plus a couple quick educational rides.
All of them were a blast.

Lessee:
The night-time Naked Ride was great.
The Tall-Bike Jousting was hair-raisingly hilarious.
Unicycle Polo was an eye-opener.
The Solstice ride up Council Crest was challenging after the amount of BEER I had consumed...:D
The Punk-Rock Bikini Bike Wash was, well...arousing...
Bike Porn was great except the last "short" which was overly long.
Vegan Bakery Bike ride was good for the tummy (especially the giant chocolate chip cookie).
Shaun from the Hawthorne gave a great talk (with slides) on his touring adventures out east, and down the Pacific Coast (this happened at the downtown Portland Hostel, not the Hawthorne).
The "Lit and Loud" ride was a great party. Especially when a bunch of us did the Zombie dance to MJ's "Thriller".
The Fair on the last Saturday was great as well.
- Myself, and my two good friends enjoyed our trip immensely: We also did a bike-tour out to Rowena, and back which was a BLAST!
