I went on a short ride after getting home from work on my favorite ride, 11 miles thru various horse farms central bluegrass - few hills, SELDOM any traffic, almost a one lane blacktop. Well - about 4 miles into the ride I notice a large bird (Turkey Buzzard) flying about treetop level just above my head. Follows me for about 100 yards, when he breaks off and another one takes over, following me for about another 100 yarsd or so. I'm thinking Bad Omen.
Well, another 2 miles down the road I see 2 TWO Stunning blonds jogging towards me - well, make that one stunning, the other just simply georgous. I think - Wow! I have never seen joggers out here much less these 2. Wonder were they started from?
I travel 2 more miles, meet up with some horses (colts have been born and are running) and they start running with me! We do this for about 1/4 mile. (clocked'em @27mph)
Sooo- Finish ride, turn around, head back and here comes the 2 blondes EXACTLY were I passed them before (headed back towards me). I'm going up a small incline, and doing about 19-20 mph. Both smile and shout 'Hi'.
My hearts pumping like crazy (max exertion!!! GRIN).
So I get home, wife gives me a cold brew, has dinner fixed. I tell her the experience and she just smiles.
It was one of them special rides were legs felt great, heart was pumping and life was wonderful.
So was it a dream? Omen? (can't figure out the birds except roadkill and didn't see any on the way back).
At a minimum it was an interesting evening!

I've had strange rides before, or strange moments on otherwise perfectly normal rides. This is one of the great things about cycling, it allows us to experience our environment in a way that nothing else can quite match.

did you happen to see some techini-color lights and have buddha welcome you to nirvana? Consider yourself lucky with the vultures. I was comming up to an intersection once only two have two hawk try to rip off my head. One second i am amazed at the beauty of the ground-level gliding hawk....the next i am racing down the road while the other hawk tries to dive-bomb me.

That's why I like cycling, too. Sometimes things happen that can't be explained but are really cool.

I don't mean to steal your thunder, but I had a moment of zen last night, too. Towards the end of my ride (the summer solstice was yesterday), the sun was setting and I was facing directly into it. The glare was heavy but I could still see enough to ride normally. It looked like you could reach out and touch it. I wanted to sit up and grab a handful of light, but the people I was riding with probably would have thought I was crazy :D
