Did my first sprint tri this weekend & had a blast.
I couldn't figure out the purpose for the marking of ages on our legs though. I could see a reason for it before chip timing, but with chips, it seems like the organizers can keep track of the age groups with the computer much easier.
Can anyone shed some light on why they mark ages on legs for triathlons?
Cheers.

so when you see that person thats 15 yrs older than you kicking your butt you pick up the pace a little.....?
So you know your competition. Majority of racers, especially in ironman branded races where kona or clearwater spots are up for grabs, are competing against those in their age group.

And 20 pounds heavier. This always happens to me on the run and I hate it.

That makes sense.
I gotta admit, it did give me a bit of a boost the few times that I passed someone younger than me!
