How do you know the gradient percentage of a climb?? Experience? A computer? Is there a rule of thumb you can use when riding?

By the way... the gradient is the height/length fraction, right? (i.e. arctan(angle of elevation)???)

The standard way to measure a hill is with a speedo that has an altimetre. The gradient is height/distance x 100. eg 3.1km climb with 190metres of ascent = 190m/3100mx100=6.1%.

CHEERS.
