Introductions - Konichiwa from Tokyo

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Happy to have found this amazingly vast forum, just I have found a rekindled spirit for riding and getting in shape (again!), the information I have seen here in only a day of browsing is priceless.
Its been about a million years since I have rode, but recall vividly the joy and escapism that riding has brought me over the years. My bike was my rocketship, could take me anywhere...
From the US, find myself in Japan now with very few options to get in shape. Gyms are out because of excessive tattoo work (Not allowed in most gyms) So...ride I will, through the streets of Tokyo....zoom!
Come from Italian bloodline, so feel strongly that my bike (being an extension of myself) should be the same...cant go wrong there!
Safe Journey

Sorry wasnt clear, I'm looking to purchase a bike in the next couple months...My Italian made fetish would be Cinelli, Pinerello, Colnago etc...and full Campy group. Of course doing research, hoping to piece together and enjoy the build part (though will be built by professional where needed)
Just sold a Specialized Hybrid that I purchased without a test ride a year ago, but fit was horrible (Buying a bike in Japan is quite different then the US, no test rides! ) really was uncomfortable to ride.
Great info on this forum, look forward to asking some silly questions...

Hendrick81,
Love....Love brought me to Tokyo! I married a Japanese girl 3 years ago and decided to give Tokyo a try. Why not...life is wonderful and life is short....
Looking to buy a high quality road bike, Italian frame and most likely Campy parts, unless something else catches my eye....though I'm a little worried about counterfeit Italian frames, so I will utilize this forum for knowledge.
Also doing research on wheels as Im a professional chef, so a bit of a Clydesdale (Big in Japan!) Looking to drop the additional Maki roll around the middle. Back wheel being of concern, I have been researching "Mags" ( ha!! sounds like my old tuff wheels on my redline when I was 12!) any thoughts?
Thanks

Wow - greetings!
I see many people there riding very comfortable bikes here as they get back to the road. Many people do not care to lean down to ride the road bikes, nor do they want to muscle a mtb - so I see them sitting more upright on a hybred bicycle or on a "surfer" kinda bike that I've been seeing more and more.
What you need to do is go to your nearest LBS (local bike shop) - and maybe visit a few more - do some googling research and go ride a few bikes.
You will know when you get on the right bike that, ahhhhhh - this is the bike.
And then from there is golden.
Enjoy.
