Texas - How's about we talk up Soldier Ride 2010?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So it looks like the Wounded Warrior Project have made their tentative schedule for SoldierRide 2010. The Lone Star State schedule is San Antonio – Austin – Dallas, TX, March, 17-21, 2010. Wow, we get to ride with a tailwind!!! Outstanding! The start is in San Antone on Wednesday, so that gives to thoughts of riding to the ride again.

A motivated team of individuals could make San Antone in 2 days from DFW, but 3 days would give time for beer and cigars. Just a thought. At any rate, this format of starting South and ending North works great for DFW folks. If you have 3 days off, you could drive down to SA and start there. Only 2 days off? How about starting in Austin? And when we're done, it's just a hop, skip and a jump back home.

Of course we'll be trying to raise money and awareness again, but I don't believe they have it set up just yet. Keep an eye on rollaid.org (http://rollaid.org/) or http://soldierride.blogspot.com/ for any updates, or to join up with us.

I'm liking the sound of this. I'll have a new LHT that'll need some riding by then.

Yeah, things have been hectic with kids graduating. I was at the 300 a couple weeks back, thought I might see you. Should be at the night ride on the 18th too.

Good luck dude, do us proud!! That should be a beautiful ride. Call me when you get back and let me know how it went.

Hey looking forward to it as always. I hope this year we can enjoy the ride more and not push as hard. ANd I realy hope we can get some more of the WWP folks to ride along. I like the south to north if we can work it in with the WWP rides.

100 plus temperatures these days I need H2O after a good ride. Currently I been spoiled while riding in San Marcos w/ good trails then a quick ride down to the river to drink some cold ones.

We rode right through San Marcos last year on the way to Corpus. If I recall, Barlows had 3 or 4 flats there. Is there still water in the river with all the droughting y'all've been doing?

Has a route map been posted anywhere?

Not yet. We'll probably get on that here in the next few weeks. In fact, we would love to have some additional input. There are some roads that we've been on along the route, but it might be nice to have a different route as well. Some of the ride will be with the WWP proper, so they will dictate that part of the route. The other part will be the rides between the rides, where they soldiers get shuttled, and we get a chance to stretch our legs a bit.

Plans are also underway to have a charity ride Saturday March 27th in the DFW area. This is a great oppurtunity to ride with the folks that have given so much for our country, even if you can't take the time to ride up from San Antone.

Any updates? I'm flying on American Airlines right now (wi-fi on the plane is nice), and the American Way on-board magazine has an article about this.

Can't wait. Maybe some of the repeat riders could list the items they brought along on the trip?

Whiskey bottles come in 750 ml sizes, so do water bottles. Coincidence?

If they don't improve the roads for the hill country 600, I'm in on the Soldier ride.

do vietnam vets allowed to be in the 2010 ride S. A to Dallas?

Everyone is allowed. We just kind of shadow the actual Wounder Warrior Project guys. They're the real show, we just ride down to show our support for them. So if you want in, you're in.

Yeah, what Dave said. Whiskey and Cigars is a good start. Then whatever clothes you have to pack around them to make you feel safe that the bottle won't break. ;^) Seriously, I overpacked both years that we've done this thing. I might try packing a little lighter this year, depending on what the consensus is for lodging.

It looks like there's enough interest to do a lunch. How does Friday the 27th work for everyone? If I pencil that in, maybe I'll get off my butt and put together a route. Then we can pick it apart over lunch and refreshments. If lunch doesn't work, we might be able to do a happy hour but would probably get less done that way.

27th sounds good to me.

Steve, I'll bring the rack and panniers!

I may just plan on being logistical support and doing the ride in Dallas. I just spent almost 3 months on crutches and physical therapy and have a follow up MRI either right before Christmas or just after the new year. It apears I'm getting frail in my old age.

BTW, I have swapped messages with another BF'er who live in Arkansas. He rides, his son rides, and his grandson rides. The grandson is one of the guys this thing is about, and he has his own hand cycle. I hope to at least get them down for the Dallas ride.

Slight complication for me in that Friday is our anniversary. I may have to play this one by ear.
