Ok, here we go again. Few things on the forum bring up as much smoke as the double-vs-triple debate. Rather than debate which is better I wonder what you're all riding...

triple, but on some hills i wish i had a quadruple, and on most descents i wish i had a big double :)

Well, neither one really. I recently installed a compact crankset with 50/34 tooth chainrings. For me it has combined the shifting advantages of a conventional double crankset with lower hill climbing gears like a triple. I really like it a lot.

Vote for "compact double". I would consider one of those too if I were building a new bike. I hear that Campy will have theirs out later this year.... :)

Single - I'm riding fixed 39x15 these days. Shifting gears feels like cheating to me, but after my knee surgery, I hope to go back to my triple. 46/36/26 x 11-19

39/53 Dura-Ace. Would like 36/50 but dang it, I just got the Dura-Ace cranks and BB for cheeep. Lowest I could go is 38 on the 130mm bolt pattern.

Retro, which compact set did you get? FSA?

Yeah, it's an FSA Energy. The aluminum model. I got it from Wisecyclebuys for $159.00 including shipping. Took me right at an hour to install including removing and reinstalling the bottom bracket, resizing the chain and reprogramming my Flight Deck computer.

The only hills here are bridges and overpasses. It's all big ring baby.

I have a triple, converted to a single, wanting to be a double. :roflmao:

Double one my Giant, Triple on my Trek. I personally would like the Trek to have a double, but being the entry level model it only came as a triple. But nice for my brother since he's just getting into riding. On the otherhand, I wish my friend wasn't so stubborn and ordered a triple because I can already tell he's going to do some serious damage to his knees despite what I tell him.

Double with a 29 tooth cog on the rear for "bail out."

Campy Triple 30/42/53 with 13-26 cassette. I will probably switch to 11-23 cassette when it needs replacing as I rarely use the 26-cog anymore.

Shmanio compact triple with 46/36/26 chainrings to help get my spin up.

Three triples, nine doubles. The ratio of triple to double will continue to change as I add years on to the 64 I have now. Don
