Was barreling downhill on a US military base in Okinawa and there was a side road in a residential area. I saw the driver look to her left up the hill for about .25 seconds and I could see she was looking for a car and nothing but a car coming.
I saw it coming, hit my brakes hard and screamed HEY HEY HEY as loud as I could. The lady driver had a young daughter maybe a teenager in the passenger side. She saw me and yelled at her mom which got more reaction from Mom than my screaming.
It wasn't particularly life threatening once the lady woke up but had I not screamed and the daughter not screamed it could have been ugly.
The funny part is the lady pulled up next to me and powered down the passenger window and apologized. The poor teenage daughter was trying desperately to not be seen and was near death due to embarrassment.
I only acknowledged the apology with a half hearted wave. I was still going too fast (and her too) to divert my attention. In fact I was a little ticked she didn't just pass me as that would have been the safer thing to do.
Man I hate people who give that split second glance and see nothing big coming and then go for it.
Me. Dahon Speed TT Pro. Bright Mango color. Flashing white light on the handlebars, bright shirt, bright red helmet. How she could have missed me coming I've no real idea.
