Cyclocross - anyone doing a shimagolo setup? ergos with shimano drivetrain?

I guess the reason why i'm asking is because I want to know if campy's "serviceable" ergos are a better way to go vs. shimano because of the abuse from cx?? I've heard of broken stis due to a fall that couldn't be fixed and needed to be replaced. Sounds kind of expensive. I rode around with barcons last year and didnt really like it.

I guess i've answered my own question but i'm curious what others think about this setup.

I'm running 10s campy brifters with a shimano 9s drivetrain. It works flawlessly, and I haven't had any problems despite smacking the levers in crashes many times.

I like the mechanically simpler design of the campy brifters, and they were quite a bit cheaper than comparable shimano stuff when I bought them. They are lighter too, if you care about such things.

i've done something similar with a jtek shiftmate. it worked great, no complaints.

campy ergos are technically serviceable, but it's an involved process. if you're going to select shifters based on repairability, i'd take a hard look at sram. the mechanics at my shop say that double tap shifters are much easier to work on. of course, it will require some sort of shiftmate or similar to work with a shimano derailleur.

I second the idea that even though they are more servicable than Shimano, Ergos can still be a pain to fix. That said, I have run both 8 and 9 speed shimano drivetrains with Ergos, because I prefer the shape.

hmm.. ok..thanks. Yeah i like the campy hoods better than the shimano. No wires..looks cool.. and more comfortable. imo

I ran with a JTek shiftmate on my roadie for about 700 miles. I was running Campy levers and shimano everything else. I would have no reservations about running it again, it really works great.

Another +1 for Jtek. I ran a funky set up for my spare bike. I had a 9speed shimano shifter, shimano rear derailluer and a campy wheel (main bike is campy). Wasn't sure which model to use so I emailed Jay and he quickly set me up with the correct model.

I run one with Veloce QS 10 and Shimano 9 speed, No JTek. Works as well as any other system I have used.

I ran a 10 speed campy drivetrain with a shimano 10 speed chain and 10 speed cassette. Took about 5-10 mins to dial in the shifting, but 0 issues.

I raced and trained on the setup for months.

I've got the same setup on my main road bike. I did it for cost and ergonomic reasons. Its worked great for close to a year of daily riding, with my only complaint being that it autoshifts occasionally as it get cross-chained. This isn't really a big deal because I don't use those gears anyway since they overlap with other gearing.
