Mountain Biking - Single Speed on a Cassette: Preventing Skipping

I snapped my rear derailleur hanger last night and ended up having to shorten the chain and do the old single speed trick. I though I had an extra hanger on hand, but it seems that I was mistaken. My LBS doesn’t have the hanger I need, so I just placed an order for a new one. Thing is, I don’t want to miss out on my ride tomorrow night so I think I am just going to run my rig as a single speed. That said are there any tricks or suggestions on keeping the chain from dropping/skipping down to a lower gear (from the one I have the chain setup on) on the rear cassette?

Actually I may have just thought of an answer to my own question. What if I just pop the cassette off and change the order of the cogs so that the cog the chain is on is between two other cogs of a larger size. Anyone see any potential downfalls with this idea?

+1...or zip tie the derailleur to the chainstay for tension.

This is what popped into my head as I was reading it.

As long as you obviously make sure the chain doesn't rub on whatever cogs you place either side of it, I see no problem.

Rigged it up last night and rode it. Worked great. I'll try and post a couple of pictures tommorow.
