Hi everyone!

Im very new to the biking scene. I just bought a vintage womans Mercier road bike to restore 1980's or earlier. I have a schwinn beach cruiser i love but too heavy to lift up and down stairs, so i thought i'd get a road bike :) Since idk about anything about bikes or how to fix them, thought i'd join to get some help. So far im just trying to get these darn cottered cranks off. Restoring is a lot harder then i thought it would be! Im considering taking it to a vintage shop, they're kinda pricey though :( Im looking forward to getting input from here! God Bless from Huntington Beach :D

Welcome!

Cottered cranks can be painful. Do you plan to reuse the cottered cranks, or replace them with cotterless?

Either way, you can get some good advice in the Classic & Vintage forum. If you haven't discovered it yet, search http://www.sheldonbrown.com as he created some pages that help in dealing with cotters (and other issues relevant to bike maintenance/repair). Ideally you should have a cotter press, but there are alternative methods. ;)

Hi and thanks!

Im going to be replacing them with cotterless cranks but im not sure if i need a special type to fit the bike or if i can get any regular kind, ill probably do a little research later once i get to that point. But yah thank you for that link, ill definitely try it out along with the vintage forum! :)
