Road Bike Racing - Picture of me suffering (imminent quads failure).

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. The picture of me at the finish from this past Sunday's CT Housatonic Hill race. 57 miles. I have no idea what I placed yet. Yes, I was in pain, literally

It is working for me.
You still kept a good upright position. If I was in those shoes, I probably would have been a bit more hunched over.
Looked like a pretty good effort there.

I think the URL is too long. Just type in "www." in the front.

How goes it man? This is Mustang_Steve from [H].
Quads failure, that sounds painful... is that kind of like splints for joggers where the muscle detatches?

Hehehe....a lot of Hard folks here. :D I placed 61 out of 125 riders. The result didn't tell me how many actually finished the race. I was racing with the cat4.

Like muscle cramping except that I was well hydrated (one bottle of Extran and one bottle of water). Thank goodness my leg muscle didn't seize and contract so that I could still finish the last 2 miles climb.

Are you going to be ok or does it mean that it literally failed and can't contract and expand as well as it did before?

Endurance athelets such as our selves, should be drinking between 500-750ml per hour of exercise, assuming you are properly hydrated from the beginning.
I imagine this was a 3 hour race no? Sound like you may have been de-hydrated after all.
Our last training ride was 60 miles in 90 degrees plus, I went through 6 bottles during the ride, and drank about 2 liters aftewards, and was still dry as a bone, but im 210 and sweat a LOT.

Nowadays I care less and spend little or no money on computer hardware anymore. :D All my funds and time are on cycling and racing. This is VictorChan from Hardocp. :D

Not exactly feasible to drink 6 bottles of water in a race. I did hydrate well before the race because I constantly had to go to pee. Fortunately the weather was cool. In a race like this one you just have to tough it out.

Thanks. I am OK. Just muscle fatigue and aches. Just not used to climbing a mile long 13% grade climb twice with my 39x23. :D
I hope you okay now,

Yep, given I'm not a racer or anything, but I enjoy what little I can pull off on my bike. :D
Computer-wise...I really need to buy a bandsaw and move into a place with a garage.....case-modding is really starting to get addictive.

Yes, I recall hearing on another forum that you go by jan04 or something like that, as well as R600DuraAce. I havent read up on computer hardware for 2 years, I just put together my mom a system and had to spend a long while researching all the absurd chipsets and DDR specifications.
As for cycling, its been slowly eating away at my bank account, and as a fulltime student its getting a bit tough. but now that I have my new bike all up and running it should cut back on the spending a bit

You can carry 2 on the frame, and 1 or 2 more in your jersey. I've got a 68 mile roadrace this sunday. I'm dreading it, thankfully it will be flat, but it is going to be 92 degrees. UGH.
Everyone is different for sure. I know that on a long day, I may not be able to absorb fluids at the rate im losing them.
I am a firm believer in hydration and performance. Earlier in the Season, I was racing well, usually until there was about 15 minutes, to go, and it wasn't that the pace picked up, I was just totally dry.
I spent a good hour or so, riding around town, watching the Tour of Georgia depart, then went and warmed up etc. Didn' drink enough, and despite launching attacks on the hill the last couple of laps, when there was 1 to go, I couldn't get up and go at all. Afterwards I drank more then a gallon of water before we got back to the hotel, and I still couldnt pee.
A couple of weeks ago, we had a combined mens 4/5 circuit race, with 48 racers. It was 99 degrees and extrememly humid, I started drinking fluids the night before, all the next morning, and I actually had to take a leak twice while warming up on the course. To make a long story short, I attacked with 2 laps to go (4.6 miles), some other guy came across, and the two of us made the break stick, sort of. He was caught by the field on the finishing straight and finished 13th, but I was able to wind it up to 32 plus for the last 500 yards or so and held off for the win. (and $100.00)! Had i not been properly hydrated, I would have never even gotten away.
I'm planning on trading in for a pair of quads like these...
