Is this something you have painted onto the frame?
Johnny Rocket - as in Johnny Appleseed
Sun or Moon Rocket - hey, it's an eclipse right?
Mars Explorer - it's red right?

Need a photo to properly name a bike.

Considering the names of your other bikes, SpaceShipOne might be a good name.

I am also searching for a name for my bike. But, I think it takes time for a bike to develop its personality. Mine, a 2004 Lemond Zurich, is about two months and 1300 miles old and still hasn't fully developed its own identity. When it is ready for a name, it will let me know.
My other bike, a Trek Navigator, is Axel Rhodes, Jr. Axel after Axel Merckx and Rhodes because it is more comfortable on the road than off. Jr, because it sounds right. Other bikes, like the lime green Cannondale R1000., come with personality. All of them should be called Slash McGurk. Nothng else fits it.

Come to think of it my name from here on shall be called Ishtar, God of love and war. Thanks for the great idea Fatbomber, I can't wait to say "so I'm riding Ishtar..." This is going to be great, maybe I'll get some decals "Wanta Ishtar"

goofy: Skippy
or, character names from William Gibson novels always work for me, like 3Jane or The Finn
"Floyd"
Though it'll be weird to say, "I'll be riding floyd today"
Maybe pegasus.
Keep the name it came with... or call it "my bike"

Knew a gal once that called her bike, Her little Beotch!
My Airborne is Christine. My Bianchi is Lola. Christine got her name after her third crash without a mark, then again maybe I read to much Steven King. The Bianchi? Well.....whatever Lola wants......Lola gets. :D

Or if you have exact birth\ date\ global position of the frames birth, for a small fee, we can do a numerical and astrological chart for your bike.

On a more serious note...Testa Rossa (red head).
The actual ferrari testarossa is a ferrari 512. Even though the TR model (testa raossa) came in other colors eventually..at first it was only in Ferrari Red....thus the name.
Or jsut translate testa rossa into some other language, and there you go :)

I haven't named my schlong. This is just a way to make it more fun when my wife asks which bike I will be riding on a particular day.
I really wanted to name our dog Earl but named him Ajax.
Some that I thought of overnight:
Bucephalus (Alexander the Great's horse)
Gilbert
Salamander

If it won't come when you call it, it doesn't need a name.
Now do you remember the joke about the name of the dog with no legs?
It wasn't: Ilene, Irene, Matt, Art, Bob, Phill . . .

Trigger?, or Kitty, or Slick? It really should be one YOU pick out. My road bike likes to be called "Angie", so now it's her name.

Aliciente. Got it from a Travis McGee novel and hope I remembered the spelling. Roughly translates to "tempting."

Nah, I was really saving up Tallulah, Rumer, and Scout for them.
Walter,
Have you ever gone looking for Bahai Mar marina in ft. lauderdale?
I have, it don't exist (or I can't find it).
that was the female character in Cinnamon skin, correct?
I know, name it Meyer . . . . :D

I think TXTG is wrong about the "guy" thing. I have 3 bikes, each has it's own name and personality. My bikes having their own names just enhances our hours together on the road...
Marty,
Bahia Mar does, or at least did, have docking space if not an actual marina. As I recall they put a plaque on a concrete pillar and called it the "honorary slip F8." That's the number isn't it?) The memory is old and maybe a bit alcohol stained too so I won't swear to it.
I think the name is that of his smaller speed boat that he keeps in the slip next to the Busted Flush. At least that's what I had in mind when I wrote the post. My McGee collection is in a box so I'm going by memory alone.
I'm not sure of Meyer as a name but I've always wanted to play a game of chess with him. :p

That Jamis is the color of the Marlboro box. Since I used to be an Indy Car fan, that bike would be the exact colors of Marlboro Team Penske race team - the team with the most Indy 500 victories. It wouldn't surprise me if Jamis did copy those color scheme from the Marlboro box. Therefore, you should call your bike "The Marlboro Velo" or "The RED FLAME".
I believe its slip F18, next to the Alabama Tiger's boat.
I looked for a marina named Bahai Mar, will have to find
the plaque next time I'm down there.
I don't think I'd play chess with Meyer, there would be
absolutely no challenge in it for him!
damn, Now I'm gonna have to reread the entire series.
Marty
It is indeed F-18 (I just looked at a website). I first wrote 18 but then doubted myself thinking of the fighter jet. Of course, that plane wasn't flying back in 63-64 when Travis moved in.
The site did confirm my vague memory of the "honorary" slip at the Bahia Mar Marina.
I doubt I'd give Meyer much of a go either but would like to try.

I had the entire set in paperback. Read them at least 10 times each. It got so I knew them by heart. I didn't have to even look at the page! About 5 years ago, I donated them to a charity that was having a book sale to raise money for MS.
I am not even sure which one is my favorite, but I really liked A Purple Place for Dying and Pale Grey For Guilt. My favorite bad guy was in Bright Orange for the Shroud. The guy who kept saying he needed some "plahrs" and "wahr" to tie up his victims. Of course, there was aways Jason Breen and his Azure Machine - his bike. Hummm, the "Azure Machine" or even Jason for my blue Zurich. Something to consider.
Back to the subject....it has been a quite a while since I read them. Perhaps I will start to build my collection again, starting with the first one.
