Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I know that ths is a topic that has come up before, but I did a superficial search on the forum for articles and haven't found what I was looking for yet. I have a steel frame that shows rust down the seat tube and I'm sure it's in other areas. I was hoping to build up this bike over the weekend, but it's such a nice frame I wanted to clean and protect the interior first. What recommendations do you have for cleaning and preserving a steel frame that won't damage the exterior paint?
Do a search for oxalic acid, be sure to sort by relevance.

What are you seeing for rust right now?
Check the frame for weak spots - be sure it is safe.
If it is, spray the inside of the tubes with lots of WD-40
