My wife and I just bought new Fisher XC bikes with full sus, and she is complaining about her saddle. “I admit, it is a hard seat, but it doesn’t bother me as much”. She wants a heavy "gushy" one, but I would like to keep it in the lightweight category. What female saddle would you recommend that is very “gushy”, somewhat wider and has the valley down the center, yet is still lightweight?

Terry Butterfly!

BTW, both of you probably need to work on your butt calouses. If you ride more often for shorter rides. Initially like 20 to 30 mins. each night. Then add time. Work up to 1.5 rides. It'll take you about 2 weeks to work up to about 1 to 1.5 hour rides w/o discomfort.

Hi,
1) takes a while to get used to riding again.
However, I bought a Gary Fisher about 10 years ago, and remember the saddle as being a torture device
2) Lots of good saddles out there. BUT!! Don't get her a squishy one. They hurt.
3) My Sis uses the WTB Speed She (the one with titanium rails). It's a nice saddle.
4) Go to the best bike shop in your area and tell them you are trying to find a good saddle.

Maybe I should have put a price range of aroung 50 bucks. The Terry Butterfly looks nice, but I am not goin to spend 100 bucks on a saddle. Anyother recomendations?

I just asked about seats on another forum....

harder seats (to a point) are actually more comfortable, IF they have the correct shape. although, it also depends on the type of riding your doing.

for simple, flat or easy rolling, sitting more upright (comfort bike style) and not too many miles a big cushy seat is nice. just any giant sized gell seat would work, pretty much.

more agressive riding, rougher trails, leaning forward (like a roadie) and riding more miles, a seat that is shaped right (usually have a hole cut in the center) will feel much better and chaffe less.

also, if your(she) is wearing the shorts w/ pads in them, that can contribute as well to a more comfortable ride.

My wife loves her Terry Firefly (http://www.performancebike.com/shop/Profile.cfm?SKU=16415). It's a $120 saddle, but Performance Bike have had it on sale for a while at $60. Apply a 20% off coupon from the Hot Deals forum, and it's a freakin' bargain! She has two now - one on her roadie, and another on her commuter. It's not particularly padded, but soft super-padded saddles really aren't ever that comfortable. It's all about the sit bones. No saddle fits everyone, but I've spoken to quite a few female riders who have like the Terry range of saddles.
