Advocacy & Safety - Safety Nannies

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this,
My wife and I were out doing errands. Two lanes, light controlled intersection, right turn lane, straight through lane, couple of hundred feet later our street comes in from the left(with a left turn lane)
We were coming up to the light controlled intersection so we took the straight through lane, crossed the intersection, before we got to our turn, a safety nanny in a SUV slows down and says "You people should be in the right lane." then takes off as my wife was telling him "not if we're going left."
Don't you just love people who feel a compelling need to give you unsolicited advice (especially when they have no idea.)

Last month, this same driver yelled "Get on the sidewalk!"...;)

"At least we can't kill someone like you can if we make a mistake."

Just ignore and go on. Life is far too short to waste time thinking or posting about such trivia.

I had a motorist tell me I was "doing it all wrong" as I was preparing to make a left turn from the left lane.
Asked him how I should do it and he pointed to a curb hugger and said "like that."
"Okay," I responded, "But how do I make left turns?"
"I donno, that's your problem." :twitchy:
Classic.

Yeah it's wonderful. While riding a tandem up a climb in Palos Verdes, a solo rider decided to pass us. A few seconds later som guy in a convertible drives past yelling "SINGLE FILE!" while pointing to the side. I just shool my head.

I hate being reprimanded by motorists. I usually just curse them out and go on my way. That's my way of showing them how much I appreciate their advice.

At least the right thru lane wasn't painted green.

People yell all sorts of random commands at other road users as they drive.
More rarely, I yell instructions back at them. No one ever listens.
Who cares?
A couple years ago, I was prepping for a left turn, in the left part of the lane, less than 100 ft. from the turn, and this biatch in a car blows her horn, speeds by me, and cuts me off at the left turn! I followed through the turn, and confronted the heifer; she claimed I was wrong because I was "supposed to be all the way to the right". I was so f'n mad, I couldn't even argue truth and logic. She almost got the pimp-slap from Hades....
Now, when I make that left, I take THE WHOLE LANE, right down the middle. F 'em.

I just yell "lose weight!" Ok, I don't, but it seems just as constructive.

If they're a safety nanny you should show them your diaper.

I had someone tell me to "share the road"! I replied, yes, that is for YOU! I was taking the lane at the time, going the speed limit (downhill at 25mph). I had another person today, while they were blocking the lane, wave me through, like they were letting me go, when THEY were blocking a travel lane! Too many drivers don't seem to have a clue!

A dirty one preferably, then fling it in their face. :p

I prefer yelling back "GO TAKE A NAP"

Enough ranting. From how you describe how you moved, I believe it was the correct thing. On my regular route, have a two-lane road that switches to one-lane soon after a light. I'm in the left lane before the light.

About a year or so under very similar circumstances I had the same thing happen. I was also going home, and a gal pulls up along my right side telling me the same thing.

Friday while riding 49th street over to Tampa I had a homeless man with one of those "laid off/will work for money signs" yell at me to get on the sidewalk. . . I called back over my shoulder that I belonged on the road.
