Just picked up an 84 Schwinn Traveler. I'd like to repaint it and I'm wondering if there is a strong enough demand for this bike to justify not painting the frame due to devaluation.

Currently it is dark gray with a light gray headtube. Paint is heavily scratched and the decals are quite damaged. I'd like to paint it maroon or an olive tone with a cream headtube. Most likey rattle can unless I bust out the airbrush... That I've never used.

PS. If I do repaint it can anyone direct me towards replacement decals. They resemble two thick white and yellow parallel lines with an S at the bottom on the seat tube, the Schwinn name with the same thick lines on the down tube, and Traveler closer the the headtube on top tube.

Thanks for the help!

Brad

Your Traveler is a nice bike but, in reality, nothing so special that you shouldn't repaint it.

BTW, maroon was a stock color for the Traveler in 1984.

As far as replacement decals, I would PM forum member JRestore.

84 Traveler with a frame in the condition you describe is nothing special. Go ahead and have some fun with it! The Traveler that year was a mid level "recreational" bike. Certainly a decent bike for sure, but not a rare classic.
