This....

Paired with this:

Still a little nervous about all the early-adopterness of the setup, but we'll see how it goes... Now I just have to wait for everything to show up--The 310XT is still backordered, and Quarq's offices are closed for the holiday weekend. Must... Be.... Patient. :)

Nice purchases DrPete. Will be interesting to read how it goes, so please keep updates on the set up once you have it all in place.

I was very interested in the Quarq, but went with a wired SRM because the Quarq isn't allowed to be sold in Australia yet :(

Thanks... I'm still a little unnerved by the fact that it looks like I'll be one of the very early adopters of this setup, but we'll see how it goes. I'm much more worried about issues on the Garmin side, but we'll see...

They're not allowed to be sold in Australia? How does that work exactly?

All electronics coming into the country needs to go through additional compliance testing, and the Quarq hasn't gone through this compliance process yet.

Would think given how they are flat out filling the orders in the States, they aren't in a rush to get this sorted for us down under...

Only way I could have got one, was get it delivered to someone in the US and get them to forward it on!

Thanks... I almost bought the Zipps first--until I reminded myself that this is a MUCH better investment in my overall speed on the bike.

Very nice. I'm thinking about the same setup but will wait a bit longer to see how the 310xt will work out. Please keep us updated.

After Mac OS X, I vowed to never be an early adopter again. So much for that promise... :)

Doc. How did you decide on this? I'm curious about the different power meters...don't really want to get a PowerTap since you can't swap training and race wheels. SRM seems to be a ton of money. iBike gets mixed reviews...aaaaaaaaagggghgghghhh.

Depends if you are willing to look at used wired units?

I went away from PT for exactly the reasons you describe. I like the SRM, but as you said it's expensive. The Quarq seems to be getting favorable reviews, and does a good enough job relative to SRM that I figured it would be worth a shot. And ultimately it's the same basic type of power meter as the SRM, i.e. strain gauges mounted in the spider.

For the tried-and-true, though, SRM is still the gold standard, but the Quarq seems to be promising. We'll see.

On a budget, the iBike seems like a sort of OK option, but ultimately it has a lot of potential for error because it's basically measuring power indirectly based on several assumptions, etc.

Well, I got the Cinqo today--installation took all of 10 minutes. Looks sharp too.

Now if only I had a head unit... :(

Hang in there, Doc. Looking forward to reading posts about you dialing it up to 400 watts :)

My power files look pretty impressive because most people on here don't know how much I weigh. :o

Well, after hearing that the 310XT's might be delaved even longer, the impatience got the better of me and I got a refurbished edge 705 for pretty cheap.

I'm impressed with the 705 overall--8 data fields at a time, fast satellite acquisition, and a nice display. It was really simple to pair the Quarq as well...

I'm not in nearly as much of a hurry to get the 310XT now... In fact I might keep the 705 if I grow attached to it. :)

Probably not a bad call. I have an Edge 305 for my bikes and a Forerunner 305 for running. I think the Edge is better for mounting on your bike.

Only problem I've found so far is that my 1-minute power seems to be recording about 150 watts less than back in my crit racing days... Stupid defective powermeter. :D

Or maybe my legs are set on "haven't sprinted in 2 years." One or the other. :)

If nobody will believe that I'm out of shape, I've perpetrated the most incredible sham ever right here on BF!
