Northern California - Torn annular ligament in lower back

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
From the crash. The sports doc said three frickin' months before I'm back to my "normal level of activity." It that's true, I'll likely go completely insane. I'm reading up on this, and words like "slow-healing" and "painful" are coming up way too frequently.
No MRI or x-rays, he knew what it was pretty much right away. On steroids and ibuprophen now.
I tried to push the doc with "Cycling is low-impact, can I start riding soon?" He just shook his head and told me to take it easy.
Anyone else had this or something similar?
p.s. I'm still thankful that it wasn't much worse.

Oh dude. I'm so sorry to hear about this. Rest up so you can come back sooner. Perhaps a second opinion to put your mind at ease?
That sucks. Is it something you need? Have it removed so you can be more flexible. :P
Otherwise take it easy and let it heal properly. I'm thinking you don't want impaired healing and a painful back for years to come... This is probably an injury you can't even swim on?

Rest and heal now so you don't suffer any long term consequences.

My back issues seem to be a result of damage suffered after I tore an abdominal muscle trying to play college football (too big to be a cyclist, way too small to play college ball, even in the Ivy League!). I didn't really follow through on the rehab and now 20 + years later I still have all kinds of back problems. It's tough to ride if your back isn't healthy!

Really sorry to hear that. I'll add my voice to everyone else encouraging you to hang in there and recover properly - it'll be worth it in the end.

Wellll, I had a T7 vertebrae compression fracture three months and three days ago (not that I'm counting or anything :twitchy:). If my recent CT scan came out OK I hope I'll be able to ditch my back brace this coming Weds at around 11 am, give or take a couple of minutes. I hope to be back on my road bike very soon thereafter - like perhaps that afternoon. ;)
p.s. I'm still thankful that it wasn't much worse. Bingo. The roads will still be there when you're all healed up. At least that's how I've been rationalizing it. :D
