Mountain Biking - Stagnant.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

OK - you're banned.
You're on your own for a few days. I'm headed for the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest for a weekend of fishing, riding and hiking (in whatever order I darn well feel like when I get there) with the fam. It was a bit embarrassing to have to admit that my old fly line was from about 1972 when I got the new stuff spooled up. Guy looked at the rod like it was an antique. It wasn't bamboo for cryin' out loud :notamused:.
What's a fly rod? (all I got is level-wind Bass rigs...and a deep sea setup for big catfish)
Haha!
When you think of it, I guess the fly reel is sort of the rigid fixie of the fishing realm. I've always been more comfortable with spinning gear really. I'm too much of a hack to be a Fly Fisherman; I'm just a fisherman who owns a fly rod.

Fly all the way for me, but I tend to use both. Sometimes both at once :D

I find the forum started sucking more than usual when Ed became a mod. I think he should give up the post, IMHO.
Don't think I haven't considered that. It's probably b/c I have to be so responsible now...maybe I should take a hiatus and tear this place a new one:lol:

I prefer fishing with electricity...much more efficient!

Lot of skill involved with a fly rod. It helps to suck, though.

I think it is interesting that the attempt at spicing up the mountain bike forum resulted in a discussion about fishing. Bunch of hacks.
And, just so I'm not out-hacked, I had a chance to take an Ellsworth Truth out for some riding this weekend. It's on loan to me for an undetermined amount of time. The bike is nice, though it may be in need of a slight tune up. The biggest issue with the ride, however, is that all I've been doing is road miles this year. The sight of a twig in my way was enough to send me hurtling off the trail. Hack-tastic. I guess the next steps are to shave my legs, sell the wide tires and start bragging about my resting heartrate.

Last time I went MTB and fly fishing in the same day I caught a nice size wallye, got ~20k of riding in, and ate far too much food. Will do it again in September.

This place has been sucky, so much so I've wandered to the commuter forum and the fascinating topics of 'How to ride and not get sweaty', 'which cars do you avoid' and my favorite - 'lawn mowers and blowers', yes someone is afraid of them...
^^ Could be worse - - could be the 50+ Forum. Selected hot topics: "The Official BF 50+ Colonscopy Thread;" "I Rode My Age Today" (or was it half their age at a quarter pace?); "Brooks Saddle Break-In Review;" or the ever-popular "Lower Bone Density from cycling."

Hell ya, forgot the whole Brooks Sadle debates! Crazy good times. Oh, I got 8yrs to go before I qualify for the 50+ forum and I'm gonna live it up (before the whole colonoscopy is a mandatory good idea) ugh

The BF.net is lame overall, at least there's some life here on the mountain bike portion. Too many roadies and fixies and weird guys saving bikes that don't deserve it...
