Hi all,

Well, I've been biking quite a bit after finally purchasing a bike, and it's time for more shorts so my one pair isn't being washed nightly. I'm not into the spandex+jersey look, and have enjoyed my Bellwether black hidden shorts quite a bit since they look good with a t-shirt. Anyway, I would love for you to share your opinions on what hidden shorts you feel are best, and why. Is Bellwether a good brand in the long run?

Shorts is shorts - I've been known to ride 40+ miles in walking shorts or cutoff bluejeans. I've got some Nashbar Tahoe baggies that I like, but I haven't had them long enough to speak to their ruggedness.

just get yourself a good pair of Lycra shorts with good chmoise, and just wear a pair of thin loose shorts over them..

Cannondales 2n1 Shorts are by far the best I have tried...

You can find them reviewed on the front page here: http://www.michiganfreeride.com

Despite the fact I am not particularly fond of Cannondale bikes, I LOVE their clothes... very top quality and comfortable. I have had a pair of cheap lycra C-dale shorts for 2 years now, and after hundreds of washes, and drying in the dryer, they still look brand new.

Thanks for the good reply, Seely!

I guess the follow-up question is:
Where do you find the best prices on bike attire? I prefer non-used:)

I have a few of those Bellwether shorts that I got for $10 a pair in a closeout sale at my FBS. I think they're okay for a couple of hours but I don't think they're especially all that comfortable. I have a bunch of Sugois that are much better and can ride all day with those but they're of course pricier.

If you're anywhere near a Galyans store, they usually have decent prices on Cannondale apparel... otherwise typically see what you can find at your local bike shop. I think Oakley makes some nice baggy shorts too.

We have a TON of Galyans here, their headquarters is in Indy. They also just got bought out...closeout sales here I come!

I mainly ride to commute to school (11 miles each way, 2-4 times a week) and run errands (no training, group riding or racing), thus I wasn't really into the lycra look at the supermarket. I bought a few pairs of cheaper Performance chamois (beginners budget) and wear surf trunks over them (Quicksilver, Volcom, even patagonia makes them now). Then I don't have to wash the trunks everytime I wash the chamois.
