Laugh out loud ? That's what I thought at first and wondered why they would call a 1000km brevet "laugh out loud" -- later I found out that it was either "lap of lake" or "lake ontario lap" -- take your pick, but it's a 1000km brevet around Lake Ontario, starting and ending in Erin Mills Ontario (west suburb of Toronto).
It starts on Thursday July 9 at 6am with a time limit of 9am Sunday July 12. Basically it's setup as three equal distance days -- Erin Mills to Ontario NY; Ontario NY to east of Kingston Ontario; and there back to Erin Mills. It's pretty flat -- the wind will be a big factor. The weather looks good ... knock on wood.
This will be a new experience, since I'm carrying everything with me for the three days. The bulk is two cycling days worth of shorts, jerseys and socks; add to that toothbrush, toothpaste, chamois cream, suntan lotion and three days worth of Perpetuem ... groan ... and my rain jacket ... and I'm happy that I won't be climbing too many hills !
I'm somehow going to manage to get everything inside of my Transit rack pack and/or bungeed to the frame rack. I don't have, nor do I want to carry, a back pack, nor do I have panniers. I'm wishing now that I had the large version of the Transit with the expandable upper, which would have nicely held the clothes.
The good news is that the frame rack will get lighter as I consume the Perpetuem. It looks like there will only be eight or nine of us riding, so we won't need a police escort holding the traffic lights !
