I am new to the area and I was looking for safe roads to ride (argyle mall area) from out to the country and to small towns or places I can get more liquids...etc.

Any hills I can climb for training? I know it will have to be intervals but there has to be some longer or challenging bike friends roads. I know of Meadowlily road which has a nice climb. Any idea of the length or % the hill is?

thank you for any input!

I am also from london as well i am fairly new to the city...I dont think there at that many climbs out in that area...from what ive seen.I havent biked out there much. I usally cycle north of masonville area around ilderton, arva, etc...and again theres not many climbs...Also check out the cycling maps on the london cycling club website they have some maps in PDF...although i am not a member i tend to use these as a guage of what i am going to do.

If you want a fairly intense climb, go to Old River Rd. (Near Komoka). It is only about 600m but will get the heart rate up even if your in in lowest gear. There are also some other decent climbs around that area that are longer (but not quite as steep). If you wanna stay inside the city, theres Colonel Talbot (personal favourite) and snake hill, with both of those being right by Springbank Park. As far as routes go for you, I really have no idea, since I'm in the North end, but the South-West area is by far the hilliest and quitest. For more info, check out the LCW site or the CoachChris.ca forum also has some info.

Just an update on an older thread as I know some London folks have to lurk here....

I've spent the last year or so since I've moved out in east london going out via Gore Road to Thamesford, Ingersol and woodstock. Great country roads and low traffic!

Any other suggestions for rides in the area that are LOW traffic?

Nice elevation gain on the first part of your ride. what was the starting point? hard to tell with the map.

Kicking myself for a Sigma Rox 9...should have went with the garmin but was scared of battery life.

I started and ended just before the bridge that crosses to the forks of the thames......its the bike path and doesnt show up as a road on the map.....zoom in close, you will see.

battery life on the 705 is 15 hours. I I extend that with the Gomadic charger when I doo longer rides....brevets and such, www.gomadic.com
