Cape cod Rail Trail to Marconi Beach - is a sweet ride. yesterday despite not being sure about the weather and traffic I just went. Good idea cuz I beat the traffic and the weather turned great.
- 47 miles
- max speed 23.5
- avrg speed 14.8
- road time 3 hrs 12 min
- time at beach 2 hrs
- food stop S. Wellfleet general store, deli was closed but got a pre-made Cesar salad with chicken
- hotties on the beach DOZENS
- water temp 58 and totally doable - went in all the way but not for too long - mostly enjoyed the waves
- sunburn index up there! bring lotion

Any way - when in doubt - JUST GO! Exit 9A off Route 6

yeah yeah, I know my speeds are not impressive but you know what? who cares :-)

I'm glad you got out, the weather was wonderful Friday thru Sunday, I left early Monday morning to head back north. I tore a couple ligaments in my right knee surfing last week, looks like I'll be off the bike for quite some time .. so your ride reports will be much appreciated!

I'll be on the rail trail next month for about 8-9 days, starting in Wellfleet.

I like to stop at Hole-in-One donuts in Orleans. :)

Wellfleet is a great place for people watching on the beach, particularily near the beachcomber.

I'll be back up in Eastham in August. My favorite ride is the Rail Trail north to Race Point and back. I try to use the secondary roads whenever possible. Old County in Wellfleet/Turo is very pretty. Rolling hills, little car traffic.
I'll have to check out the Hole In One. I've never been there.

Got the kids to rack up 22 miles camping last week. One nice stretch they liked was from GREAT LBS in Eastham to Marconi. Zipped into the South Wellfleet deli again then to the beach.

Gonna see if I can drag them out again next week and get 'em up to 50 miles for the trip.

My Dad came up from NY just for the clams tequila and beer at the Coma!

The Coma, that cracks me up. When I was a kid growing up down there I was lucky I didn't end up in one after leaving there at closing time. Not so smart now that I think of it.

I might be on the trail this weekend doing some light workout on my knee.
It will be the first ride in over a month.

Got the kids back out there for another 3day special. They racked up 28 miles this time over 2 days. We hit the CCRT, Ocean Virew Drive, and the roads from White Crest to Great Pond; Welfleet town center to Long Pond; Marconi to Eastham Nauset, then to Eastham cnetr for lunch and ice cream, then back to Welfleet. We were gonna camp but wound up staying at hotels. We're very fond of "Southfleet Motor Inn" cuz it is across the street from Marconi and the CCRT. A short walk to 3 restaurants and has 3 pools. I spent 6 times what I would have spent on a campsite but hey, someyimes you just gotta go 1st class! :-)

The outer cape has it's own weather and was totally gorgeous while back home was messy.

Bring that knee 'round slowly, but the rail trail is a smart way to go. Meaning relatively safe.

Rum, have you been down to Cliff Pond in Nickerson Sate Park? Right of the CCRT, it's one of the prettiest ponds on the Cape. Worth the ride from "Smellfeet" Just kidding, that's what we used to call it way back when. When the CCRT was still gravel and coal remnants.

Cliff Pond? Sure. I tried some fishing there. Ever dirt bike? I've explored lots of dirt roads and it seems that area would be good for MTB running. The soft sandy spots can be tricky though I imagine.

The sandy/dirt trail that runs next to the CCRT in Wellfleet looks like it could be fun on a MTB but I never tried it.

Are you planning to attend the Larz Anderson bike show on the 9th.?

I suspect it will be a good show this year:

I'll be displaying my '70's and '80's Fuji line up.

Have to check my calendar etc.

You're a Fuji man? I test rode a new Fuji "Touring" and found it VERY comfortable! $1099. on sale for 10% off.

I stick with the vintage Fuji's. Fraction of the cost of the new models and I feel that they're better built.
Hope you can make it, I'll have two touring models with me.
