Road Cycling - Knee pain

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
OK, this is getting on my nerves!! I finally got my position dialed in (or so I thought) and when I went on a 65 mile flat ride two days later I am getting pain in my knee again!! I usually don't ride near that far or long, so that may be part of it, but I just get the pain on the inner aspect of my left knee. My right knee is fine. I was spinning a high cadance (95-110) [well high for ME]. I didn't get to stop for the first 25 miles and was with a bunch of guys who were into setting a world speed record (average speed was 24 mph). At the first rest stop I pealed off and took it fairly easy (18-22 mph).
All that said, my question is this: Could it be that I just overworked the knee and it is not a position, cleat alignment issue? Any suggestions about what to do? I have been using capsasin and taking my usual 25 mg of Vioxx with some mild releafe. Interestingly, it mainly hurts when walking up and down steps (mostly down) and doesn't hurt when pedaling.
Any help would be appreciated!!

Hmmmmm.....sounds like you should visit your doctor before
you really tear something up. Your knees are NOT supposed
to hurt like this.

I agree with Tightwad... however, it may just be joint pain from overuse.. if you went farther, or faster than you have before, it may just be joint pain... I get it fromtime to time, especially if I throw a bunch of hills in the mix
good luck.. hope it feels better

Sounds like the SAME thing thats wrong with my knee. It hurts when walking up and down stairs/hills but doesnt hurt while pedaling. I went to a physical therapist and she said i strained my patella tendon. We did about 5 weeks of therapy and i didnt work. So my doctor is now sending me to the ortho on monday. I would say def. go get it checked out

I had a very similar problem in my right knee. I ended up adjusting my seat height and cleats to eventually fix it. I discovered that I needed my right cleat adjusted differently than my left. On another occation I had raised my seat as an experiment and my knee pain came back. I had only raised it around 1-2cm but when I moved the seat back to it's original height the pain went away.
